We were able to get the mulch (actually Pine straw which we've been wanting to try) at the local store. We saw they had it outside, called to pay over the phone and picked it up without ever going in. Just had to wear gloves and wipe it down good.

Now yeah, plants and flowers are more tricky unless somehow you can decide what you want via drive by and pay remotely somehow.

If that's not essential then I don't know what is.

Since I've been putting more plants and seeds in the ground than I normally do, I've been at quite a few nurseries, including a few Lowe's, and I'll warn you that none of the Lowe's nurseries had much to offer- far less than a normal year (and that includes early spring before folks were buying up everything), but results may vary. I'll admit that I didn't pay any attention to the ornamentals, as I pay a landscaper to do all that stuff. (Throughout my childhood, as part of my summertime chores, I had to work flower beds, and while they're nice to look at, I'd rather take the keel of a motorboat to the face while it's running up on full step than I would work a flower bed.) Also, most of the dedicated nurseries have been hit or miss; depending on when their last shipment of seed came in.

As an aside, I always plant a decent size garden, but this year I'm planting several acres. Whatever I don't give away and put up for winter, I'm going to sell for cheap: My plan is to have the folks come out to the land and pick their own vegetables themselves to save on costs and minimize contact. I'll probably set it up on an honor box system.

I feel like it'd be a good way for folks to get out and about in an open air environment and also be doing it for an essential purpose: Not just because of the "grocery shopping," but also because of the psychological playground of finding yourself smack dab in the middle of 100,000 acres of remote national forest and wildlife refuges and being surrounded by fresh vegetables ripe for your picking and knowing that you can dig in and get some dirt on your hands.

It's kind of like planting and cultivating your flower beds: Since when is something so cathartic as working the dirt that you live on and having faith that the seeds you sow will grow, especially in times like this, not essential?

I say frick the Nazis at the road block who are playing judge, jury and executioner, regardless of what the actual executive order says, and go get your essentials. (Yeah it has happened to me personally and 2 close friends in MS. Some of our small town sheriff's departments are loving this power trip, and I'll wager a bet that they are not alone.)

my point is that people, not you necessarily, keep screaming about why Lowes is still open, but ignore that Lowes SELLS more things that just flowers

my 6 year old broke one of our toilet seats today so I'll be making a Lowes run in the morning

Barbers are a little more close contact than the typical trip to HD, and in tighter spaces. But I generally agree with what you're saying.

In the exact same dilemma. Grab mulch, dirt and rock from Lowes or wait for my local landscape supply place to open up.

I also need a couple yards of each, so it's a total pain in the arse to do Lowes. And 10x the expense...

I stop by my local HD about 3 times a week coming home from work. And by the looks of the parking lot every time, I am not alone. Go help the economy a little bit and pick some stuff up. I find that the majority of the people at Lowe's or HD are in the main part of the store and not the home and garden section. Last Thursday I had that whole section to myself while I was buying mulch and some weed killer.

Heck I'm going back again today to get more raised garden bed soil so I can finish planting my new asparagus bulbs and some corn in another bed.
