I just realized this is most likely an elaborate troll. There is no way you're really this obtuse.

if so, the commitment to the bit is uncanny

I’ll let Tex decide this about his truck acting up.
Tex, you want me to help with your truck or not?

I was thinking so for a moment but enough of his posts are “serious” that I think he’s just another crazy person like Roger.
I mean think about it, he’s 55 and childless with nothing to do. He’s likely an insane person
Edit: he does turn into a troll when he realizes he’s backed himself too far in a corner but it’s very obvious so more support he’s starting off being serious

Yes, a lot of hardworking young people are fricked.

Keep it from burning oil for me. My friend is a certified mechanic at a nearby shop and has run the diagnostic for me. There’s no leak. If it’s the piston rings, I’ll need a new engine.

or maybe he's a doctor that's in med school to gain qualification to teach medicine and that the school is requiring him to get a public facing job to improve his soft skills

Mingo, if Tex wants my help with his truck and makes a new thread, can you stay out of it unless you know something about it? Please? We won’t talk about finances, I promise.

He just told you what is wrong with his truck. I am actually very curious to see how you'll help him fix his blown motor issue.
Posted on 11/24/25 at 2:10 pm to TexasTiger08
Any loss of power? Any issues other than it’s burning oil. I think you said 4/5 quarts in 9K miles?

He posted at 1:59. I posted at 2:01. I do have to write my post don’t I and might not see interim posts before I hit submit?
And you don’t know if he has a blown engine. Not enough information yet.

O wow you're actually diagnosing the problem with the engine too

I'm doing just fine. But this whole conversation is not about me an individual. It's about the macroeconomic factors fricking over several of the younger generations.

He can tell me to stop trying to help him any time he wants.
He said he doesn’t know if his rings are bad. All he said was no leak.
Tex, compression OK?
What other symptoms are you having other than burning 4/5 quarts every 9000 miles?

I was assured that massive illegal immigration, uncontrolled money printing, eagerness of companies to offshore jobs or bring in H-1Bs, and skyrocketing cost of living and inflation has absolutely no effect on your daily life and the real problem is that you’re just not trying hard enough.
Posted on 11/24/25 at 2:44 pm to UptownJoeBrown
Oil is changed every 5,000. It burns about 4-4.5 every 5,000. Compression is fine. No puddles under where I park.

Compared to what?
I seem to recall the infamous "misery index" with out-of-control interest rates and terrible unemployment during the reign of the peanut farmer. But people worked hard and made their way through it.
If you choose a degree or trade in something foolish, you will struggle.
If you choose something that you can realistically make a living out of doing, you will not struggle as much.
Choose wisely.
Then work hard and make responsible choices with what you earn.
If you burn through your money and fail to invest it well, you will never get ahead.
Or you can just live in Mommy's basement and whine about how hard your life is.

How many young people do you know other than your *step* granddaughter and her girlfriend?
I can't speak for Roger, but the "show up and work hard making you better than 90%" held true from the time I entered the work force until I retired. And at the end it was a damn shame, too. They had GREAT jobs but were too irresponsible to show up for work. Not enough time to get drunk and high, I guess.
The quality younger guys in our outfit got sick of picking up the slack when the deadbeats went AWOL and moved on to other companies. A year after another older guy and I retired the company folded.
They had the world by the tail, they did, but Darwin won again.

So all the young hard workers ended up without a job?
