Can any of you plant Baws explain to me what a turn-around job is?

I keep trying to watch the company training video but I can’t figure out what a turn around is...

A "turnaround" is when a plant shuts down a unit for a period of time in order to repair or replace equipment. Turnarounds can last anywhere from a month to a year, but are typically around 3 months. These are often done during slow production seasons of the year when the loss of that unit won't be too damaging, like around the holidays and early winter.

However, time is always of the essence, since every day the unit isn't producing costs the plant hundreds of thousands in lost production, storage costs for feed stock that unit would have been using, and labor costs. So, during turnarounds, construction baws and contract engineers are often working 12, even 16 hour shifts to get the unit back online. Turnaround season is when industrial construction baws make their money.

Thank you! That actually explains it so much better than the video. Not really sure why the video was so hard to understand
