Battery just went dead as a hammer. When hooked up its like it want hold enough juice to turn the motor over.

I've had batteries not take a jump

My last one did. Started just fine in the morning, and that evening it was a lifeless block of lead

Absolutely possible. If you somehow get it started, dont turn the car back off until you have a new battery in hand.

A battery can go bad/dead where it's unuseable. But jumping is effectively using the power from the other vehicle to turn it over.
May have to wait a few minutes, use larger diameter cables, and rev the engine of the good battery to raise the voltage.

No, the jumpers should be on wires directly to starter. Check your connection (with jumper car running) and try again.

I have small diameter cables and can't get this 5.4 L v8 to turn over. Wife bringing me a new battery while it freeze my butt off in this grocery store parking lot.

Yes, absolutely. This happened to me last weekend. Battery died in my Volvo (which was parked behind the BMW, so I couldn't move either vehicle ). Called a friend up to come over and jump it and even after charging for a good 10-15 minutes, nothing. Took the battery to Advance where I bought it. They tested and it had one or more dead cells and 0 cold cranking amps. It was under warranty so got a new one for free and all is good.

Small cables (or long length) and cold weather can definitely do it. My wife's car wouldn't jump for shite last winter. My dad came over with larger cables, turned over first attempt.

Yes. Especially when there is a drastic change in temperature either way.

Probably 4 years old.
Anything over 3 years is borrowed time in our heat (which is worse on them than cold). I don't give a damn what the warranty says, I replace mine when they get over 3 years old. I'd rather "waste" a little money than get stranded. I had too many conk out on me.
When I was a kid, they tended to give some warning they were going bad. Turn over slower for a bit, then die. Now they go from great to dead in an instant.

Yes. Let it sit for a while with cables hooked up . Also try a larger gauge set of cables
