Great people.

He makes some peanut butter fudge that slaps.

And just the random stuff he would come up with is great

I actually go to the one on Old Hammond at Oneal since it's close to my work but I think it's the same owners/management as the one on Nicholson.

I like BR. I had a blast there when I was in college, and I tried to get out and explore the town. That said, when I go back, I’ve noticed a change.

Stats show the crime has spread.

Traffic is absolutely terrible with no fix in sight.

Politics seem to be worse than in comparable cities.

I feel bad that people genuinely think that food and culture are worth the headache. It shows me they haven’t been out much.

Family? Work? That’s a different story. LSU is a huge boom to that place. I like BR, but I’m not blind to what it is.

And this…

I'm saying that private schools are necessary in most large cities today.

I’m not sure. You have one of the most populous states a couple hours west on I-10, and private schools are not a big deal over there.

I love it here too. I’m technically in St. George now though. I have never been the victim of a crime in my 30 years here. Came for college at LSU had to move away to get a job after graduation. Moved back after 3 years after I got some experience and a Master’s Degree. Ironically, my buddy from Tennessee has a son who graduated in May and is moving to BR for his first job at IBM. Gonna live and work in downtown BR.

Well at least our mayor isn't a non BR native incompetent fool anymore in fact quite the opposite

Maybe we can work that into some of the council eventually but we'll take our rebuilding season wins

BR is not bad. It does lack a good plate lunch.

Is Bellue’s considered a plate lunch? I have some good meals there.

Yes. He gets a lot of Exxon business.

Pick your meat and then sides. Course they do have gumbo and other things. Certain days he has special items.

He used to have a second place on Jefferson Highway near Bocage some years ago. He told me the landlord kept going up on the rent because his business was doing well and he realized he was doing all this extra work with a second location just to pay rent. So he shut it down.

Stockyard Cafe is sorta close by his location and is pretty good for a plate lunch but I prefer Bellue’s.

people need to stop trying to travel across town at 5pm

I've lived in a very small city my entire life. I like to visit a large city, but get my arse back home. Tons of restaurants and stores just never feels right. Doesn't feel like a home town. And just like any city, crime areas are like cancer, they spread into the good parts in a blink of an eye. Remember 90% of bad areas were good areas at one time. And I don't want to live in a place that I can't drive across town whenever the hell I see fit.

All that being said, live your life. If you and your family are happy, that's what matters.

I think Baton Rouge is a fine place to live if you live in the right area.

And there's an incredible and highly lucrative industrial base in town, which leads to impressive upward mobility for people in those fields. Seriously south Louisiana's industrial base is the envy of places like Memphis, Little Rock, Shreveport, and probably even larger markets like Birmingham and OKC.

If Baton Rouge and New Orleans had the white collar job market to match, the Baton Rouge-New Orleans super region would be VERY competitive with Houston, Nashville, Atlanta, etc. We need a few more homegrown corporate HQs, better airports, better schools, and better highways to really crack this one.

Lafayette is your answer-

It seems to be now what people say BR was many years ago. It’s a large town/small city. I always loved that town. So much going for it and doesn’t seem to get much mention when discussing not only great Louisiana cities but southern cities in general.

It’s solid im telling yall.

It’s all relative but if the white collar jobs came, all the rest would fix itself. People can tolerate bad public schools roads etc if it means they have a good paying job in a low COL region.

ALL POBOYS, not traditional sandwiches. Try to find a place that sells a sandwich between two slices of bread.

Me too. Moved back in 2019 from Ellick and the only thing I miss is hunting, drinking and fishing w AlxTgr. Closer to family and can bike to LSU games, lots of great restaurants and bars, and New Orleans is only an hour away.
