Everyone likes to hate on BR because of crime, traffic, culture, corrupt politicians, horrible roads, public education, cancer alley and poverty. But they never bring up the good, like LSU football, food and drive-thru daiquiris

Herein lies the problem with Louisiana residents. Forget our terrible schools, inept government, high taxes and crime. We have football, food, and drive thru liquor! This is why the aforementioned negatives will never change. Too many people are content with being fat, dumb, and drunk.

Can you buy a relatively inexpensive house in a decent part of town that is not a stone throw away from a ghetto?

To the one person who downvoted this, do you know of a non chain sandwich shop? I seriously want to know.

When I started my own business I could have lived anywhere I wanted.

But each time I thought about moving out of Baton Rouge I always ended up thinking, "That's going to be long commute to attend LSU home baseball games."

I love living in Baton Rouge in spite of the summer heat.

As a Baton Rouge native, this 100%.

In no world does a now-ruined College sports product, some food, and drive thru daquiris make up for all of the above, plus weather, traffic, things to do, etc.

One of my biggest gripes with BR and a part of why I left is the weather. I dont want to live somewhere where its uncomfortable to be outside for a majority of the year

Meh, BR is okay. I'm not from there (or LA, for that matter), but stuck around after graduating from LSU because that's where I landed a job. It was okay for what it was. I never hated it, but I also took the first chance I got to leave. I left 15 years ago, and when I go back once a year to see my wife's family, almost nothing has changed.

When I was younger, BR was an aspirational city.

But Im old AF so that was a long time ago.

When averaged out, the total tax burden in BR is middle of the pack of the country. The crime more is mainly gang related and consolidated to the bad parts of town. The education rankings of the state are actually rising. My neighbors send their kids to many of the public schools in baton rouge and have nothing but good things to say. And you can always go to private school if that is not good enough. Private schooling is common in all larger cities around the country.

It seems you just feel more comfortable in a suburban setting. You can live in a newer and nicer house 10 miles outside of town where you can sit in traffic on your way to a big chain restaurant.

I personally can't wait to GTFO. Unfortunately, I have three more years in this area to allow for the kids to finish high school.
