. I don't know what happened fully, and I hope there will be some video evidence that comes out that could provide indisputible evidence.
I will say this though, it is hard to believe the family's narrative when the guy fell asleep with a gun on his lap that also happened to be stolen

I don't understand why the "family and friends" in the type of cases always obsesses over how many times the deceased was shot. If I'm shooting to kill I'm not firing one shot then waiting to see what happens.

He probably didn't even realize what was going on. He was awoken by screaming and shouting, I'm sure the natural reaction is to reach for his gun since he could be getting robbed or carjacked. Vallejo is a sketchy town. Not saying what the officers did was wrong, just a sad situation all around.
