Hunting seems less interesting when the animals fight back.

From wiki

The animal's flighty, easy-to-scare nature causes the yellow-backed duiker to freeze up in torchlight which makes them very easy to hunt at night. When the animal is stunned by torchlight, hunters can almost walk right up to it. This puts the yellow-backed duiker and its relatives at major risk for overhunting.

Yeah. Screw that old a-hole. Tells me a lot when this is what he was "hunting".

He wasn't hunting elephants. Maybe he has before.

Sounds to me like they were tracking and stalking. See below.

Also, badass way to go out. Look at this awesome headline:

Prominent Lodi ag figure Ernie Dosio killed while on hunting expedition in Africa

Dosio was the owner of Pacific AgriLands, a Modesto-based company specializing in custom harvesting and farm management services. In Lodi, he was known for his charitable support of local ag groups.

I mean, that doesn’t sound like an a-hole to me.

ETA - Can you provide a link that says that he was hunting at night?

My wife’s uncle has just about every possible mount at his house, including a giraffe. A fricking giraffe! Every time I go over there I try to envision lining up a giraffe in your sights and can’t wrap my mind around it.

Still would rather be rampled by a herd of elephants then sent to a state funded nursing home where you have the nurses beating you because you "Sh*t" yourself and cannot wipe or feed yourself anymore.

Seems more in line with nature.

Sounded like he lived a good life.

Was he a republican?

A lot of idiots are going to be celebrating this “got what he deserved” yada yada yada

Ol Ernie contributed more to the conservation of African animas than a million “anti-hunting” nut jobs have combined.

I’ll ask the pathetic losers in this thread what money they’ve sent to Africa for conservation?

Guys like Ernie are the reason a lot of those species are still alive and not extinct/endangered.

I remember reading an article many years ago about big game hunting in Africa. Basically it's mostly organized conservation. It also provides income for protection. That's one of the reasons the animal rights groups mostly give them a pass and leave them alone.

As an example, female rhinos mate with a dominant male. When that male gets too old and fat, the females reject him and start courting the younger bulls. The dominant male who is rejected doesn't take his loss of status well so he goes on a rampage and starts killing younger rhinos. So they figured out that one of the best ways to conserve and protect rhinos is to kill the old bulls when they lose breeding status. Instead of making a local game warden shoot the rhinos, they let some rich American fly over and and pay $100k to shoot that particular rhino under the guise of "hunting".

It's win-win-win. The hunter gets a trophy to hang on his wall and a cool story to tell. The local community gets an infusion of much needed money. And the rhino herd gets protected because their greatest threat (another rhino) was removed.
