It makes it sadder. Dude missed out on several more years of the good life.

If he was an average Joe, the elephant just put him out of his misery.

I just don’t see the appeal of shooting an elephant.
He was hunting some type of forest buffalo.

Elephant hunting doesn’t appeal to me, but I’ve listened to a podcast episode that talked about African big game hunting. Its strictly regulated, extremely limited in the number of opportunities and when a permit is issued, its for a specific individual elephant thats very old and can no longer reproduce. The hunter pays a fortune for the permit, which then goes towards funding conservation and anti-poaching operations.

Of course they do, if it weren’t for conservation there’s nothing to hunt.

You place value on a resource and people will want to maintain and grow that resource.

Ernie spent thousands of thousands on Africa trips I’d bet. That money helps the local agencies protect and provide habitat for animals such as the yellow backed duiker.

Again I ask, what have you spent to help the yellow backed duiker thrive?

Yea, we heard all this same bullshite about the Cecil the Lion guy. He’s a conservationist! What have you done ?! Etc

Turned out he had a prior poaching conviction and bribed his guides to cover it up.

I’m glad ol Ernie went out under 8000 pounds of karma.

Toddler brained, liberal arts trained “journalist” gushing with trigger prompts. I try not to hate, but they make it too easy to fail.

Not against hunting in Africa at all, I just don’t see the appeal of shooting an elephant.

Lions I can kind of understand as long as it’s older males who have already raised prides. If you see the way they kill their prey, that kind of brings down the empathy factor by a frick ton. And their numbers aren’t dwindling at the rate that elephants are.

Elephants are drastically losing population and need to be preserved. Their tusks tend to be extremely valuable and sell for large profits in East Asian countries where animal rights are basically non-existent, like China for instance.

You must be illiterate or just lazy because based on your reply, you obviously DID NOT even bother reading the article.

Kruger can support 20,000 elephants. Right now, there are 40,000 elephants in the park. And that many will wreck the habitat for other animals.

You either have to give the elephants more land to live on or you have to shoot the excess (cull).

Africa is not the United States.

Without people paying to hunt and giving land owners a reason to protect the animals for profit, almost every animal in Africa would be dead and eaten by the locals.
