Because of your actions.

2,500 deaths in 2 months out of a 40 million population, and he acted like it was a threat to survival of the race. Now they want a bailout? Nope, make the cuts.

Looks like they better get back to work and raise taxes on LeBron James and George Clooney. Lol.

But why should they spend their money when they can spend yours?

Somebody has to pay for the methadone, alcohol, weed, and cigarettes that are being delivered to the homeless that the government put up in hotels.

Respectfully disagree. That middle aged guy fixing his hair in the rear view mirror of his metallic blue Porsche with a rear spoiler is most likely the douche he looks like.

Billions in benefits to illegals and non citizens.

There is a TON of illegals in Cali that don't pay a single red cent in but take more out than the average American. Add that to the liberal government pensions, and liberal spending in general and this is what you get after being shut down for a mere two months.

what's worse is there are still people who believe shutting down the economy was the right thing to do and in fact we should shut down harder and longer.

This approach was like setting a tack with a sledgehammer.

California finance officials revealed a $54.3 billion deficit today in the first economic assessment of the coronavirus pandemic’s devastating blow to the fifth-largest economy in the world.

California's budget was going down the tube long before the Chinese Flu. This is just an attempt to blame the virus for California's fiscal irresponsibility in order to get the federal government to ball them out.

I've been hysterically laughing for the past month knowing that this would be the logical conclusion to the shutdowns. We have governor's holding individuals hostage for bailout dollars. The corporate sector got one so why not me, sir? States need to seriously consider local crypto that can't be debased by the Feds, this is so beyond ridiculous.

FYI corporations are blaming their balance sheet destruction on the virus too

Just tax the Silicon Valley billionaires and Hollywood actors more. Rich Californians are RICH. Say the taxes are to help thwart Trump or something and your deficit will be made up in no time.

Yes- The Cali libs were/are so much against Trump, including his tax cuts, so I would think they would be fine with paying more taxes!

You'd be surprised at how many illegals pay taxes. A large majority do.

Illegals in California paid $6 billion in taxes in 2017 of the $105 billion total taxes paid in the state.

Yep, like another poster said that's why their $20B surplus was just a mirage.

I’m expecting all kinds of “COVID-19 Mitigation” fees on everything from the water bill to car fees. An increase in my income taxes and a decrease in everything the state does.

I wonder how long it will take progressive dems to realize all of the expanded social expenditures they want can't be paid for when they're tanking the economy for a virus with a sub 1% mortality rate.

As has been pointed out countless times, most red states are net tax consumers and most blue states are net tax providers. The hate for California, one of the country's economic engines, is both ignorant and comical.
