I'm so proud of California! The red states have been berating and ridiculing California and it's citizens for so long that it's good to see them get their faces rubbed in the success California is having economically. As a matter of fact, just to cap it all off, California should secede and start their own country just to really rub it in and show those shallow, narrow-minded conservatives!

Modest compared to California is a fricking understatement of the century.
We are being robbed by California.

Louisiana is the one doing the robbing if anything

In 2021, Montana led the states with the highest proportion of federal funding to the overall budget at 31.8%, followed by New Mexico (30.7%), Kentucky (30.1%), Louisiana (29.8%), and Alaska (29.0%).
Vermont relied on federal grants the least, with just 12.8% of its total budget coming from the federal government – a total reversal from 2020, when it topped the list with 35.7% of revenues coming from the feds thanks to four federal acts passed that year. In 2020 and 2021, Vermont received over $4.9 billion in federal grants.
Despite receiving the most federal funding dollar-wise, California was the second-least reliant state on a percentage basis, with 14.5% of revenue coming from the federal government, followed by Minnesota (14.6%), South Dakota (15.0%), and Iowa (15.5%).
Louisiana is literally twice as reliant on the federal government as California

you’re a hillbilly in Tennessee with an internet education. Pipe down, we all know why you’re an overnight fan of the state of California. Centrist elsewhere.

They are (by far) the most populous state in the world’s richest nation. Nominal gdp is a bit of a useless stat.
Bangladesh has a higher nominal gdp than Switzerland. Where would you rather live?
Here are some facts about California, as a current resident
1) over the past 25 years, California’s gdp growth rate has been in the bottom half of all 50 states *every year*
2) California has the highest gas prices in the country.
3) California leads the nation in out-migration (adjusted for population)
4) California is routinely rated as one of the worst states to live in if you are middle class
5) California has the lowest home ownership rate of any state
6) California has the highest taxes
7) using cost of living adjustments, California has the highest poverty rate in the nation
8) despite sky high taxes, California k-12 schools almost always fall in the bottom half or bottom third of educational performance studies.
9) California leads the nation in companies leaving for other state (adjusted for total businesses)
Don’t take my word for it. The 2032 census is set to remove *4* electoral votes from CA due to the population loss
What’s that saying…..”people vote with their feet”

Louisiana may or may not be a welfare state, but these rankings are skewed just like GDP is without looking at the big picture. States with a lot of military, NASA or other Fed facilities "receive" federal funding in the form of the budgets for those agencies, and it gets counted here in these "rankings". The impression you're supposed to get is that this is all some kind of federal welfare giveaway, but it's not for many of the states on the list.

It’s also misleading for another reason.
The “states” don’t give money to the Feds and the “states” don’t receive money from the Feds
People do. States that have a high percentage of old people on social security and Medicare, like Florida, are going to appear to be welfare states, even though it’s just money going to retired people that live there.
The same people who complain that certain states “give” and certain states “take” are the same people who generally support the progressive income tax structure that contributes to this as well.
