A Caddo Parish commissioner and his sister allegedly stole more than half a million dollars from a federally funded meal program serving low-income kids during the summer.
The pair served the meals to the community at sites including the private school where she served as principal, but allegedly inflated the number of kids they served, according to a federal indictment and district court records.
Caddo Commissioner Lynn D. Cawthorne and his sister were indicted Thursday on federal charges for allegedly stealing from a federally funded program meant to feed children in low-income areas during the summer.

Their punishment should be being fed to the hungry

Federal government should not be funding meals for children when we are in middle of obesity/diabetes epidemic
What kind of putrid parent doesn’t feed their child?

There's no such thing as a free lunch, boys and girls

Stealing from the American people like this should result in capital punishment.

What separates Louisiana government officials from other states is that they're too stupid to get away with their crimes.

Tasha is going to be pissed she didn't think of this first....

Scruffy, it's just money from the government and we all know government money is free.

You think she won't inflate the numbers of how many people the COA served so they can get their full millage again next year?

This is funded through the department of education and I don’t understand it. Why are we spending education dollars on feeding poor kids during the summer when their family is 99% likely already on food stamps.
Who the hell can’t manage to feed their kids in 2018?

I’m telling you, if the feds has the resources, they could bust state and local agencies in this state every single day.
Sheriffs, police chief, school boards, COA, parish councils and their president, levee boards, etc

There have been like 3 or 4 stories in the last 24 hours here about people being busted on corruption charges in Louisiana.
Is this a coincidence or is there something going on behind the scenes?

Some of it may be a backlog of stuff being cleared up with regard to the feds.
I don’t know about Medicare fraud but I know that the DOJ corruption squads tried not to bust black politicians at the least.
New administration, new standards.

No way that could happen in EBR, the COA board and our parish council are on top of things.

Not that she didn’t want in on this, but it’s out of the scope of what she does which is mainly vote-gathering for the EBR Dems.

I know public schools do not expel students until the end of October because that's when they have to have the number of kids enrolled in free lunch. After they submit those numbers then they start expelling kids that have been a problem. I have always been curious as to where the money goes, that schools get to pay for kids lunches, who were enrolled in free lunch, but got expelled.
If a statewide investigation was done, I would imagine there would be quite a few others who would be found to be doing shite like this.
