The maintenance person from the cable company turned off the emergency brake off which was supposed to stop this from happening. I think it kept triggering because it was too sensitive.

When they were building the local one, one of the anchors snapped and the cable crashed down onto cars in the parking lot. I was about 30 yards from the cable.

Every time I ride it, it goes through my mind. Its an 1800' drop.

The cable broke, yes. The emergency brakes (two of them) were mechanically locked open, and if not locked open would have stopped the car.

Damn. I thought it was just sort of a snap and plunging straight down scary. The fricking several second roller coaster ride before puts it over the top.
