One would think that news stories are edited these days, but this one didn't make it past the seventh word

Please note that an important lesson was learned here. If your team loses a game, and someone throws a food representing your ethnicity onto the floor, then result will be thrown out and your team automatically wins.

I believe UCSB still throws tortillas. This seems like a regional thing. And it's southern California, every team will have Hispanic folks on the team, and the students in the stands are their friends.

Now if a predominantly white Rancho Palos Verdes started throwing chitlins on the court against a predominantly black south central LA squad...

They ARE meaningless though

That is, assuming you aren't a petulant child without a sense of humor and want to see racism in everything. It might be meaningful for the perpetually offended with thin skin, like you apparently

Here is an article in the LA Times, written by the son of Mexican immigrants, outlining the long, weird, history of throwing tortillas. UC Santa Barbra basketball fans used to do it constantly...before it was banned due to it stopping the game

LA Times

And here is a shock! The guy who supplied the team with tortillas attended college at......UC Santa Barbra

LINK

This is the pathetic state of our country. Context doesn't matter except for the context the perpetually aggrieved and dividers WANT to assign to something. It's no different than the tennis broadcaster who was fired by ESPN and smeared as a "racist" because he said one of the Williams sisters was using "GUERRILLA" tactics in a match. Not only did the context in which the statement was made have no racist overtones whatsoever...it wasn't even the RIGHT frickING WORD the perpetually aggrieved claimed was racist!

They sound like racist & shitty people but let’s be honest.

This is the NCAA taking away a title bc Reggie Bush had an agent. We all know who really won.

Luke Serna, told several publications that he had brought the tortillas to pass out if the team should win, and he had not had any racial motivation.

In other words this douche did it lol.

Why did they fire the coach?

Why are the future players on the team penalized until 2024 when they weren’t involved?

Someone should teach the people in authority that the punishment should fit the crime,

Coronado is an island/peninsula that's an expensive place to live. Probably some military brats on the team since it's the home of Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, where Navy Seals train.

Very nice place to stay. Lots of nice hotels and restaurants. The top hotel is the Hotel del Coronado. We didn't stay there, but walked over in the evenings and had drinks on their outdoor bar.
