Somehow I feel like Broome and administration is dumb enough to expose themselves in a situation like this. I find it quite comical and sad at the same time these are people managing our city and parish.

Would love to see that but the best I think they get is being released from a bunch of legacy costs that BR is trying to stick them with.
StG should pay BRPD legacy costs? How many areas in StG has BRPD provided coverage to? And how much has StG paid them via the general fund?

Are they not proving the reasons why the City Parish form of government does not truly represent the unincorporated parish along with the other cities?
Yes.

Are they not proving BR is taking everyone else’s money to balance its budget?
Yes.
Make no mistake. This case will end up being "randomly allotted" to either Trudy or Janice.
There's some high level algorithms running to make sure this one doesn't end up with Billy Morvant.

My favorite is reading some of the Advocate's hit pieces on a daily basis. They talk about all these people wanting to annex into BR because of the "uncertainty" of StG but don't ever mention the certainty that the newly annexed will get to add more taxes than they currently pay. They also will fall under the BRPD's watch, which is already understaffed and that's before you take nearly $50M out of the fund that pays BRPD.

That’s not even going into the question of whether BR would actually annex the residential areas.
That one neighborhood who petitioned for annexation back in 2015 didn’t get in.

It won't take long for people to realize they'll want to be in St George if there's not any change in the city government as it currently stands.

I don’t care EBRP is responsible for the ditch on the side of a city parish road. I got my work order number, needs to be cleaned out, and their responsibility is to clean it out.
If Mayor SWB cannot schedule it in a timely manner she needs to show up with a wheel barrow, a few shovels, and all her assistants to clean it out.

Fact. It won't go to Fields b/c that would be too "coincidental." My bet is Clark.

Is BR trying to bleed St. George dry in legal fees before it even gets off the ground?
Posted on 10/25/19 at 9:20 am to Damone
Yes.
I’m not sure this will work out the way they want, though.

I'm sure BR will be having multiple suits going at once. How is St. George going to fund the litigation?
Posted on 10/25/19 at 9:26 am to Damone
They need to use some of those legal fees to invest in some shovels, rubber boots, wheel barrows, and dump trucks getting out there to clean some ditches.

Not 100% sure but the attorney they retained is Central’s city attorney, who handled a bunch of similar cases by EBR when that city incorporated.
That may end up saving a lot of money solely if she can use precedent from those cases to get a summary judgment for a number of them.

“It was very informative,” says CSRS CEO Tim Barfield. “It wasn’t about sour grapes. It was just about the process that was contemplated in the statute. It was very informative and professional.”

Y'all knew there was going to be a catered meal in all of this:
quote:
More than a dozen of the city’s most prominent business leaders gathered at the City Club this morning for a breakfast meeting and legal briefing on efforts to legally fight the St. George incorporation.
quote:
The breakfast meeting also included a solicitation to help raise money to cover legal bills in connection with litigation. Pierson said Thursday she is working pro bono and is representing the mayor as an individual, not as the head of city-parish government.
quote:
Among those in attendance besides Barfield and Haymon were: Richard Lipsey, Mike Wampold, Mike Polito, John Engquist, John Noland, Bill Balhoff, Adam Knapp, Ann Trappey, John Snow, Bryan Jones, John Jackson, Coletta Barrett, Edgardo Tenreiro, and Shawn Usher.

If it isn’t sour grapes, why does the list of participants read off substantially similar to the list of people who donated toward the anti-SG mailers?
Enquist, Lipsey, Noland, etc.

Like her or not she’s the best choice for this and she lives in the city. If anyone is surprised I don’t know why.
She’s a speckled trout catching machine that can cook her arse off as well. I don’t give a shite what she sues for as long as I can get a bowl of her gumbo in Fourchon.
