Buying a sports coat

Is it best to go local, i.e. Dillard’s or online, and if so, which online company is preferred by OT baws?
I’ve never been a suit and tie or sports coat type of guy, however my new employer prefers a sports coat look and the change is a must for me.
Which brands are in? And even more importantly, which brand wears the “lightest” and doesn’t wrinkle (airplane travel) and is stylish?
Price is not an objection as long as I get what I am looking for.

If true, then do not buy off the rack.

It’s true and I don’t mean that in a baw kind of way. I want quality and something that is stylish and will last.

I buy online from Brooks Brothers.
Wait for the off-season sales, sport coats get down to about a 50% discount off their regular pricing.
$200-$250-ish on sale
Suits get to around $300 for the lower grade, $500 or so for the better lines.

In that case, I see you’re near Nashville.
Look at Alton Lane. They have a location there. They’ll take all your measurements and you can sip on a glass of bourbon while you pick out everything from colors to stitching. That’s where I get my stuff and I’ve never had a problem.

Do your homework first by researching and arming yourself with as much information as you can before you step foot into a department store.
Coat sales people love an uneducated and impatient buyer. The average person buys a new coat once every six years. The store and their sales people do this every day. They will try to tag-team you and wear you down, by having you wait for an extended period of time while they “check” with their manager. If you find this to be the case, know what power you possess by being able to “walk-away”, go to Dillard’s or kohl’s
During the coat negotiating process, you the buyer, need to keep a grasp on reality. If you can afford $200.00 coat and the object of your affection lists for about $350,00, you might be able to negotiate it down to, say, $270.00. But there's no way you're going to be able to buy it for $200.00 unless you buy a heavy coat in summer or it’s on the discount rack.
Below are excellent sites to research the coat of your choice

1. Prior to taking a fitting, make a copy of your measurements. That way if the salesperson accidentally misplaces them, you can still leave.
2. ...
Etc. etc.

If you want something that will look nice but will be comfortable, machine washable and not wrinkle I would go with a Bluffworks travel blazer. LINK

That was the funniest thing I’ve read on the OT in years.
