What is expected from say, a first timer group?
Just stay hydrated and try to contribute to the event in some way, even if it's just volunteering to work the ice truck or picking up trash.

Looked up Disturbathon and it looks like something cooked up by a bunch of "frick society" middle-schoolers.
But this cult network alert about it is fricking fantastic: LINK

It is rumored that the organization follows a warped Christian ideology similar to the Children of God cult which has gained so much media attention. Although little is known of the group's internal structure it appears that they have links to the Extopian movement and view the Sci-Fi author Philip K. Dick as a modern prophet. Disturbathon, paradoxically, is sometimes opposed by participants of the wildly Satanic (Wiccan/OTO) Burning Man event held yearly in Reno, Nevada. The basis of this opposition is uncertain but may be related to PETA, GreenPeace or other Neo/Green Terrorist organizations.

If the 70+ year old man I saw there, wearing S&M leathers and walking around with a live, baby alligator hanging halfway out of his a-hole is in any way associated with a "Christian ideology," then life truly is but a fricking dream.

I wonder what they consider a "child" to be? I don't see "children" going to the disturbathon.

I would go just to see some of those cool structures and gadgets. I've had some festival experience with Roo and Waka years ago, but can imagine some big differences with BM.

There are some awesome gadgets and structures, some interesting things to do, and a great place to people watch.

This is one of the coolest ones I've seen posted so far this year. Gutted 747 turned into a dance club.

How the frick do they get something like that there?

In pieces, but still large enough to require multiple semis.
My all-time favorite was an "art car" called The Contessa. It was destroyed years ago due to a petty dispute between it's "owners," but it was magnificent. It would cruise around the playa, people would jump on board and galley wenches would serve them free drinks.

She's going to need a lot of sun block for all of that exposed skin, especially being a redhead and all. She should think of at least wearing a wide-brimmed hat.

There was a special on Burning man that came on HBO a few years back. I had never heard of it until then. I have to admit, I could not stop watching it
I imagine there are some decent people there but some of the people, especially the ones organizing the event, were the type people that would push me over the edge.
Of course the special focused on the positive but you could see some of the underlining issues in the background
If you get 60,000 people together for an event, I dont care where you get them, there will always be some people there that will cause issues.

I would love to go to burning man. Seems like Krewe of Chewbacchus did a burn last year around halloween. Definitely seems like more celebs are going to burning man than ever before. So i can see how it could go from a free for all go anywhere be a part of everything and then suddenly you have guards and velvet ropes stopping you left and right bc you aren't famous/super rich.
