It is a sad day that a parent has to seek recommendations on how to protect their child at school. Very empathetic to those that have young children in their home.

I’ve got a little target box I set up in the back yard and shoot at. It comes with a heavy arse plate you slide in the back that the bullets explode on. I couldn’t imagine being an elementary student carrying something that heavy in my back pack all day.

You can get 10x12 multi-hit Level IV ceramic/UHMWPE plates under 7 pounds that can stop .30 M2 AP rounds. The problem is they aren't going to last long before a kid does something to crack them and they need to be replaced. Steel is heavier and going to be closer to 10 pounds per plate for just III+ protection.

How many school shooting victims have been shot in the back while wearing a backpack over the past few days?

When you see the shooter you turn around and stand still

Okay, I am about to google "why would Odysseus32 buy his kids a bullet resistant backpack if the went to public school" and I will let you know the results.

Unless I am missing something, I just don't see how this would really work logistically.

What does a bullet proof vest do? It protects the major organs on the body right? Heart, lungs, etc. What is a bullet proof plate on a backpack protecting? And it is only protecting them if they have it on.

I guess it depends on what grade a child is in in terms of how often they will have it on, but I assume kids stay with the same teacher from grade k-3 at the least right? Once they are in class and remove them when do they put them back on?

Also, every situation is different and if its a situation where they have it on and they need to run, they are going to have to drop the backpacks because its going to be heavy and it will slow them down to keep it on.

Look, a little bit is better than nothing so if there is a 1% chance it could protect them then there is nothing wrong with it, but I could see some down sides of having it. As I mentioned, it weighs them down and for them to be protected the shooter will have to pretty much be aiming for that area of the backpack where the plate is.

And do mass shooters shoot up public schools more than private? I seriously don't know, but they can happen at both. So you would buy them something that has little chance to protect them if they went to public school, but wouldn't buy them one if they were at a private school because there is less likely to be a shooting?

I guess. My kids booksacks are packed with so much crap that it’ll probably stop a bullet anyway.

yes, this is terrible

Supposedly at uvalde there were a few shots to the head - so a backpack wouldn’t help bc if the child holds the bag to his head, then his torso may not be covered

It’s sickening to think of all this in the first place

Link, claims to be a former neighbor

And they post this all on here. Excuse me.

Idk. I have a kid so you creepy mother frickers need to stop.

I swear to God Skillet or link I'm done

well this was surprising to see.

pretty strong words from an internet pal. there seems to be a misunderstanding about the veracity of the "neighbor" inside joke. you seem pretty upset about it, so allow me to explain:

back in the days of bayourant2, your husband mentioned living in an a specific area of town, and i told him i also lived there for a bit. you may have been a part of the conversation, but i don't recall. we joked how we might have been neighbors...but we don't actually know that. in fact, there are multiple condos/apartments/townhouses in the immediate area, and it might not have even been the same one. neither one of us ever investigated further.

i don't know what you look like, your name, where you used to live, or where you currently live, and i'm not a friend of yours that never revealed himself. the same applies to every poster i casually post with occasionally in a daily thread--i have never met a single one of them. unless they've publicly posted their picture or name here, i don't know them, and i've never cared to seek them out.

i'm surprised that needed explaining, but i don't mind because i thought we were cool. i don't necessarily appreciate the call out, the "creepy mother fricker", or the accusations, but i do wish you well, like i always have.

I don’t know if y’all have guns in your house, but your kid is far more likely to die from a gun in your house than at school.

Especially when they're older and decide to be idiots and test how bulletproof the backpacks are.

Yes, from tranny and sexual propaganda in elementary school, and classmates and other kids doped up on SSRIs.
