Pray he recovers and the thugs get dealt with!

As a hs sr. me and 4 friends were on bourbon for Mardi Gras. We get split up into 3 groups around 2am and I got stuck by myself. So I send a text to meet at my truck before my phone died. So young, drunk me walks from bourbon to the corner of Rampart and Iberville where we parked. Took the "fast way" and unknowingly walked the rds bordering the Iberville Projects and passed a few sketchy folks.

ETA: Was very lucky and blessed that night.

Worst part is those were probably some hardworking tax paying citizens that got ambushed by a bunch of government collecting, drug dealing POS that contribute NOTHING positive to our society.

They need to set up military along French Quarter just like they do in tourist areas in other countries. POS

Not sure what good carrying would've done in that situation. They were knocked out before they knew what was happening.
The guy on the right (our right) certainly was, but the guy on the left struggled with his aggressor for a few moments - long enough to pull his firearm and get off a couple of rounds into the guy behind him. Then he definitely had enough time to get the guy that came back to go through the pockets of the passed out man.

I'm not saying that I'd have been able to take care of all those guys with Borne level precision, but seeing as how the thugs didn't appear to be armed, I think the mere firing off of a couple of rounds towards them would've cut their attack short.

Very very few assailants are prepared for an armed response to their actions. Time and time again, even amongst armed criminals, when their would be victim returns fire the criminal usually just runs. That's what you're really hoping for anyway, to scare them off. I think that could've been done in this situation.

Tourism keeps N.O. afloat. Every story like this keeps a few thousand tourists from coming back. There are always new tourists that hit 21 and are ready to go see the sights.

Eventually all the stories will change from good food and good party stories to crime and degradation. Eventually the numbers will dwindle. Then an effort will be made.

There will continue to be no effort until enough business owners get hit in the wallet.

These thugs know that people are going to the FQ to drink, so the likelihood of them being armed is virtually zero because the vast majority of CC permit holders follow the law. That whole area is vulnerable and Mitch willfully chooses to keep it that way.

I'm out. Not visiting while Landrieu is mayor, including bowl games.

Effective policing like NYC under Giuliani and this doesn't happen anywhere in the city without massive shows of force and crackdowns.

Selective policing like in Chicago where they flex police into nicer areas and contain the carnage to others and this wouldn't happen.

Unfortunately Landrieu is too busy sucking up to the DNC and pulling down historical landmarks for his presidential run to do something like that.

New Orleans has enough people actually wanting to live there for this not to happen. They will have to collectively replace Mitch with someone with the balls to actually do it before it will go away.

As soon as the thugs don't fear the police this is what you get.

Mitch Landrieu and our city council spent 3 million dollars, thousands of hours of overtime for police officers, thousands of hours of contractors and planning, months of speeches and preparation, multiple meetings and town halls, and days of actual work in a massive coordinated effort to remove 3 statues from the city.

But they haven't spent one single fricking penny or one second addressing the crime problem running rampant through the streets.

That's why people are mad about the statues. It's not the statues themselves it's the proof behind them. It's the proof that the money and effort and coordination to fix some of this city's problems exists but Mitch Landrieu, Latoya Cantrell, and the rest of the pathetic excuse, waste of oxygen, "leadership" in this city is too lazy, egotistical, ignorant, and pathetic to use it for good.

frick them. I cannot wait to move. And that sucks. No one should be excited to leave their home that they love.
