The shortage of cops began under Mayor Holden.
Low pay was the biggest reason, and one year they didn’t even hold a police academy.
Broome took over, and made things much worse. Morale went to crap as officers saw the administration did not support the badge.
It’s trending the wrong way and with this mayor it’s only going to get worse.
Not enough cops, low morale, and too much OT makes for tired cops. It’s not a good a recipe.

It's only going to get worse. Who would want to put their life on the line for a Mayor and Chief that truly doesn't care for them? It's not about the safety of the citizens and officers, it's about getting elected. That's why she appointed the Chief from outside the BRPD. He had very little if any ties with them and he's happy to do whatever she deems best for her political future.
This...big time. Broome made LEOs public enemy number one when she first took office. She made it very clear that she wanted Dabadie out. She pushed her "police reform" which, as expected, has turned out to be a colossal failure, and hired her puppet as the new police chief. Crime has gone up, but somehow it's still whitey's fault. What a ridiculous shite show Broome's administration has been.

I highly doubt they dig up a significant number of “qualified officers of color”.
So they are actively recruiting only blacks? That's not racist at all.

And here I thought that old Woman's hospital was huge!

Their starting pay is like 34k a year. No fricking way I’d do their job for that amount of pay. It’s pretty ridiculous that a GED plant baw can make 100k and can have all kinds of felonies, and BRPD is making 34k.
I think Louisiana is consistently ranked as the worst state to be a police officer.

Writing should be concise and not include unnecessary filler words.
I'm out of this shithole the instant my parents are no longer with me.
Idaho or Montana sounds about right.

Well folks it is simple.
Get out to the polls and vote against Broome and get a new mayor and new blood in the police and crack skulls again. Get criminals back in line.
100 short. I am almost embarrassed and terrified simultaneously.

they must get huge raises or charge a ton of illegitimate over time because when they release highest paid ebr parish workers a few cops are always close to 190k a year.

Pay scale increases over time, cops can log a lot of overtime in general, and, as mentioned upthread, federally funded overtime pays a LOT better than regular overtime.
It concentrates into a few individuals due to union rules, I’m sure, where the guys with most seniority get first look at any OT assignments. And if that adjusts their retirement for the rest of their lives, they will OT the shite out of their final three years to set a high retirement base.

The current cops are gonna stick it out. But tell me where will and how will BR attract new blood? frick working there if I am 24 and semi-educated.
Posted on 8/5/19 at 3:29 pm to PiscesTiger
Current cops might not even do that depending on prospects elsewhere.
If they want to stay local, they can try to land with State Police out of Troop A, with Dept of Public Safety, with Zachary PD, with EBRSO, etc.
If they want to move out of the area, better areas are hiring officers and their years of service will transfer to their new department both for tenure and retirement purposes.

We can talk all that smack about those socialist retards over there but they do pay their cops well.
That's because it cost $3M to buy a house that would cost $250k around here.

Residents will have to support a tax increase directly funding BRPD salaries as well
I personally feel they should go with one PD for the entire Parish. Have an elected EBRSO run things.
You can use the elimination of duplicated adminstrative positions to fund higher salaries
Municipal PD's were only formed as a way to generate new revenue that stays within city limits anyway

A lot of departments, OT is a NO NO. They do not want to pay OT.

it's like they are trying to frick the city up...like some politicians are doing to the country

It can be maliciousness, incompetence, or both.
SWB is clearly malicious. Murphy Paul just seems dumber than dogshit.

They still have plenty of cops to sit in their cars in speed traps at 7 am and ticket working people.
I haven't seen a police car using radar on the interstate in years.
