cops are not obligated to protect you. they roll out the caution tape and cover your corpse most of the time.

you are responsible for your safety.

Most places in California start at 100k. We can talk all that smack about those socialist retards over there but they do pay their cops well.

This isn’t an equal comparison. $100k in California is like $40k in Baton Rouge.

So halfway through the year BRPD has lost 24 guys. That’s a bad pace and all came before Paul shite on them last week. I wouldn’t be shocked to see that number reach 50 by the end of the year, especially if they are able to find a spot in a decent department.

BRPD rank-and-file morale is shite. I’ve spoken to a few young officers who are on their way out. Nobody wants to work for Broome and Paul.

Hmm that’s funny. I bet they still manage to staff the inspection sticker checkpoints though

What’s the pay scale for BR cops?

According to the public records data for the year 2017, median gross pay is around $49k. Around 70% of the officers made more than $40k and 23% make $70k or above. Only 33 officers make $100k+.

I knew starting pay was a bit low, but that's normal for civil service jobs because you get a bunch of raises as you go along - but the overall salaries are actually lower than I expected. I have no idea what normal is though.

edit: this is some dicey data though, since I recall there being officers making over $200k due to working so much overtime on federally funded activities like DUI checkpoints. If I recall correctly one guy worked an average of 60 hours of overtime a week and still had time to run a catering business and go on vacations.

The rumor is layoffs when St. George happens. Anybody hired after 2007 should be worried. It would suck to go through an academy and get a pink slip a month after graduation.

It's only going to get worse. Who would want to put their life on the line for a Mayor and Chief that truly doesn't care for them? It's not about the safety of the citizens and officers, it's about getting elected. That's why she appointed the Chief from outside the BRPD. He had very little if any ties with them and he's happy to do whatever she deems best for her political future. The officers see this and are/will move to different departments like EBRSO, LPSO, Ascension, and definitely St. George WHEN that happens.

Why would an officer who makes so little not want to work in a smaller town where the pay is similar, the criminal element is tiny compared to BR, and there is good fishing close?

Also don’t forget the chief is probably not a POS black panther protecting the trash on the street more than his Men.

Same thing you do in business you get rid of the two reasons you are in this position.
SWB and MP.

1) officers leaving before new ones are in place.
- pay versus good economy.
pay outside law enforcement
- normal situations terminations, health, family reasons
- better pay other agencies

2) I imagine morale I am not with BRPD so I will stay out of this.
- state of country's attitude toward officers
- pay
- violent crime where feel handcuffed
- strain on relationships and or family
- quality of life

3) A lot of new potential recruits cannot qualify for the position.
- health reasons
- criminal record
- did not do well on civil service test

I did not stay at a Holiday Inn last night nor do I know what causing the short fall. I image some of the above issues I posted could be legit reasons for 100 officer short.

St. George is not going to have a PD. They will continue to use EBRSO for Law Enforcement.
