My brother in law is having a baptism in Fort Worth Texas. He and his wife live in Jacksonville Florida now. She is from Fort Worth and he is from Florida. The church they plan do it at is not at a place she went to church at. Mrs Squeeze says we have to go. Is his wife out of her mind? Will the kid's first birthday, communion be in Texas every year?

Has any of y'all dealt with unreasonable in laws that demand family events be in places that half the family does not live? It is just awfully inconvenient when they could have it in the town they live in.

Just don't go. Deal with the consequences later.

Fort Worth >>> Jacksonville

Unless you live close to Jacksonville, be happy.

Yeah, I wouldn't go if it was across the street, much less across the country.

These types of things are for the wife/mom. You should have known this before you got married.

I'm not aware of any rule in any church where you have to have every sacrament performed in the same church.

Is all her family in Ft Worth and all his family in Florida?

Both of our kids were born when we lived in Texas. We went to the catholic church near us, and that's where they were baptized. All our family lives in LA or MS.

We always did Christmas, birthday parties, etc, in Texas. It sucks to have few family around for that stuff, and it's a big part of the reason why we moved back to LA.

Wasn't aware that God set up jurisdictions for Baptism. So will he be re-baptized in his new state of residence, like changing his driver's license?

I'm thinking she may be close to the priest that's performing the Baptism.

My priest is from Buffalo but has been at my church for about 13 yrs. People come down here for him to marry and baptize often bc of he married them or their parents.

Let them do what they want.

Catholics believe in forgiveness. Don't go.

Yes all her family is in Fort Worth. She does not work. She spends weeks on end in Texas when he has to work on the road. She does not know how much of an a-hole she really is. She is is not cognizant that she is disrespecting the FL side fo the family including his own parents.

Her family has money. Money is power. Power doesn't travel.
