Yes all her family is in Fort Worth. She does not work. She spends weeks on end in Texas when he has to work on the road. She does not know how much of an a-hole she really is.
Hmmm, so far there is one person in this narrative that sounds like an a-hole and it’s not her, it’s her brother-in-law.

So you think she is disrespecting his family by having it in Fort Worth but if she has it in Jacksonville where all of her family would have to travel is perfectly fine? Her family who is apparently helping with the kid when her husband is away on business? Also, her husband has apparently agreed to this so he is the one who would be disrespecting his family.
Curious why you’re so butthurt about this other than being too cheap to travel.

That church is about to steal all their money

No way in hell I am getting on a plane for a baptism unless it is my kids or a godchild, and even then it is iffy.

I think you should go to support the family if they want you there.
I also question if the church should be performing the baptism. The congregation makes vows in a baptism to nurture the child in the faith. It sounds like that congregation will not be given the opportunity to hold up the commitment, which is unfortunate.

Actually it does if you listen to what is being said

It sounds like they wanted to include her family. I’m guessing that they’ve had other major events in Jacksonville, so this one they want there. What’s the big deal?

It sounds like your wife is the one you actually have a problem with. You said in the OP that Mrs. Squeeze is the one making you go. Not your sister-in-law.

Don’t try to reason with a woman that’s just had her first baby. They aren’t mentally stable.

Has any of y'all dealt with unreasonable in laws that demand family events be in places that half the family does not live? It is just awfully inconvenient when they could have it in the town they live in.
Are you the godfather? If so, get over it and make the trip.
My best friend is having his child baptized next month in Louisiana and I'm flying in from Massachusetts to be there because I'm the godfather.
If you're not, then frick it. Send a congratulatory card or something.

So, how is "the congregation" going to make a vow to the child being baptized if they aren't even aware that the child is being baptized?

I think you're missing the more important aspect of "who gives a shite?"
The "congregation" is going to be dicking around on their phones during the entire baptism because no one actually cares that some stranger's kid is having water poured on his forehead.

Why wasn’t he baptized when he was younger?
I know catholics do things differently but it makes far more sense to me to get baptised when it's a conscious choice you make, rather than being an infant and having water sprinkled on you.

Not gonna lie. I thought you meant the adult BIL was being baptized and it was an even weirder story

Gotcha but I thought that's what OP was referring to

Yeah, I'm not religious but how is this even allowed? A lot of churches won't even perform weddings for non-members, much less baptisms.
