I know I’m basically a newbie here. He’s 44 and never really been a drinker. He drank in college.. and then drank a bottle of whiskey when we played golf, which was In his late 30’s. He officially hasn’t been diagnosed but with his systems and me doing a web search, I already know he’s stage 3.
So I started using a patch this past Tuesday to quit smoking. Hopefully, I can donate part of my liver... I’m probably sounding stupid here. But, just wanted to let it all out.
Has anyone else dealt with a family member, dealing with this?

Um, yeah. He should go to a doctor. Dr. Google isn’t real. And I’m guessing you have zero medical experience.

I can promise you don’t “know” anything. You just think it.

Naw main, sorry to hear.

Good luck.

I hope (for his sake) that he’s stopped drinking forever.

Sounds like this story is lacking details. At any rate, hope he gets fast and effective treatment.

I’d let a Dr. make a diagnosis

Alcohol isnt the only cause. Have you done genetic testing? You might be giving him a liver that's just as much at risk.

Eta: you haven't had a doctor tell you anything yet? Maybe do that first before you start planning to remove your organs.

My thoughts exactly after reading the OP's post.

Self diagnosis over the net is not the best way to go about getting medical advice. Plus jumping to conclusions faster than a frog with its arse on fire is counterproductive.

Get your brother to see a real Dr.

I have a cousin that doesn’t really smoke but went to the beach one day and smoke 5 packs of Marlboro reds. I googled coughing and think he has stage F lung cancer.

Anyone have any advice?

Sorry for the confusion...

He has went to the doctor, he’s waiting on a biopsy and cat scan. But the specialist has already said he has cirrhosis.

About the drinking part... he drank in college and then quit. He only drinks when we golf, which was a pint of whisky about 2 times a month.

Hopefully this makes since, because none of it goes to me right now.

I expect the normal dumbass replies from the OT

My grandmother died of cirrhosis and she never drank. Fatty liver disease was the culprit. Good luck.

Nobody that drinks should take tylenol.

I'v known three people personally that have died before 50 from drinking too much and easing their hangover with tylenol.

Didn't know them real well because I don't hang with drunks, but I did know them.

His ankles started getting bigger and then all the sudden, his left leg by the ankle split open.
Then his abdomen started swelling.

Maybe donor lists are shorter now.

Last person I knew that died from it was about 10 years ago.

Died waiting.

I think the lists might be shorter now and that surgery has a pretty good track record of success.

There are several things that can cause it

Don’t read too much into what you read online, let the Dr. tell you based on what he sees

There are treatments that can be as simple as a diet change but it depends on type & stage

Good luck to your brother & you as you kick cigs
