He needs to see a doctor. Cirrhosis isn't jut caused by alcoholism. It can stem from other health issues as well. I for instance have it, but it isn't due to alcohol. I was born with 5 congenital heart defects and it is a byproduct of how my system works.

He should see a Dr. asap

ETA: I see the edit and that he has seen a dr.

never really been a drinker. He drank in college.. and then drank a bottle of whiskey when we played golf, which was In his late 30’s. He officially hasn’t been diagnosed but with his systems and me doing a web search, I already know he’s stage 3. So I started using a patch this past Tuesday to quit smoking. Hopefully, I can donate part of my liver... I’m probably sounding stupid here.

Jump to conclusions much??

Why do I think you’re drunk right now?

And cirrhosis doesn’t have “stages”.

Everyone now knows to use powrerade and Adderall to cure a hangover.

And drinking did not do this. He didn't drink enough. You sound like Nancy Reagan and the dumb arse coke scare of the 80s while Oxy was legally being perfected for mass murder.

It could very well be genetic. A couple of years ago, my mom was diagnosed with NASH and went downhill quick. I spent a lot of time at Tulane while she was waiting on a liver and after she was lucky enough to get one. She's 64 and is doing awesome. Her younger sister has the same thing. Neither one of them were ever heavy drinkers. Hell, I couldn't tell you the last time I saw either one of them drink anything. Good luck to you. Get yourself screened.

Yep. I had a good friend in college who's liver went haywire at 21 drinking like college kids. She had to cut way back and is healthy at 43. Not all organs are the same.

Cousin passed away. Sorry, but true. She was in extreme pain. Would take showers so hot that it would burn her skin only way she could get relief from the back pain. Good Luck, your bro in my prayers

The liver is a fairly resilient organ.

You shouldn't get cirrhosis from drinking twice a month without some kind of extenuating circumstance. He may need a hepatitis screen.

Not gonna sugar coat it, but your brother probably doesn't got much time left. My uncle died in no time once he developed liver cirrhosis, and my co-worker back in Alabama at 37 died from it as well with also liver cancer. They died a hard death each. I know it sucks reading this but the human body miraculously can absorb an insane amount of abuse. If you ever watch any biology videos on the exact reaction of your body when you smoke just one cigarette, drink one large soft drink, eat a hamburger, etc... it would blow your mind at how such modern society created items for human consumption can be dealt with by the body yet not shut down. BUT the body can only deal with abuse for so long. And some people simply are wired differently and can handle long term abuse to their system whereas others will fold in no time. Its also amazing how when people suddenly take care of themselves, how rapidly the human body can heal itself. My 37 yr old co-worker ate great BUT he drank almost every day for only 3 years and it simply caught up to him. As for my uncle, it was so much fast food and deep fried crap that destroyed his liver.

Take for example myself, after the past month I changed my diet and lost 23 lbs in 36 days and went to a birthday party this afternoon where I ate potato salad, a burger, a hot dog, slice of cake, ice cream, and a slice of apple pie.. within 2 hours my body felt like pure shite and still I feel drained as my body had already adapted to a much healthier lifestyle. Thus tomorrow, its clean eating day and major exercise. I wish you and your brother the best but cirrhosis in most cases is irreversible.
