Sounds like my late mother-in-law when asked about her drinking habit.
She'd tell the Dr. she only had 1 glass of wine a day but failed to tell him that included the bottles which are made of glass.

Sure it’s not Hepatitis? He probably drinks a lot more than you know

Sorry about your brother, it’s awesome you are willing to help if you can

He’s 44 and never really been a drinker.
Hmmm

He drank in college.. and then drank a bottle of whiskey when we played golf,
Is that the drinking equivalent of "I didn't inhale"?

He officially hasn’t been diagnosed but with his systems and me doing a web search, I already know he’s stage 3.
So you're saying you really have no idea what is causing his symptoms which you have not described?

So I started using a patch this past Tuesday to quit smoking. Hopefully, I can donate part of my liver.
That's actually quite magnanimous of you.

Glad you're willing to help out, but most likely do realize that he's pulling the wool over your eyes, as he probably is the rest of his family, about his prior alcohol intake.
Just be willing to accept that he hasn't been upfront about his alcoholism, for let's be real, most people are the same way. It's hard to feel sorry for someone who has brought this on himself, so that's why he's downplaying it.
Again, it's good that you're trying to help him out.

His ankles started getting bigger and then all the sudden, his left leg by the ankle split open.
Then his abdomen started swelling.
And he wasn't taken to a fricking doctor ??

Sorry to hear about your situation. Probably the last place you want to come to for sympathy. This place is a cesspool of frick sticks. Keep your head up and be strong for him. Goodluck

All of y'all need to quit being so judgy when it comes to WebMD. I did a lot of reading on there and I've been doing some under-the-radar surgery on some people. A few of them have worked out okay*, and I've been taking some extra cash in. Cool part is wearing scrubs.

This sounds absolutely miserable
Also, he’s been lying and is most likely an alcoholic. How many people do you know who enjoy a bottle of whiskey while playing golf in 100 degree heat?
Prayers to your family.

An occasional drinker ain’t putting down a fifth of bourbon. He likely had drinking issues you aren’t aware of. Some people are closet alcoholics

Web search always yields the worst results.
Best of luck to your friend but I would wait for a professionals diagnosis before worrying

I have hemochromatosis, which can cause cirrhosis of the liver. It can be caused by other things.

I know a guy that can get you a liver by Monday

Y’all are some dicks lol but wouldn’t expect anything less. Maybe I should’ve waited to post once I had a clear mind.
And clearly I left off the half pint of whiskey and not a full bottle.

I have a family member who was diagnosed with Hep. C some years ago most likely contracted from a tainted blood transfusion he got in the Army during the 80's. Liver disease is nothing to mess with, but it can be overcome IF your brother fully commits to doing what the docs tell him to do.
My family member was the first person in our state to receive the drug Harvoni. It cured his Hep. C, but his liver was too far gone. He went through the donor process via the VA and followed it religiously. Once approved, he waited literally less than 48 hours for a liver to come available.
That was two and a half years ago, and he is doing well. He continues to religiously follow his doctor's orders.
All of his care is through the VA, and his transplant was done at Vandy. We have all been pleased with the care.

I will also advise that you and the rest of your family do everything you can to keep a close watch on him. While it is his liver that is going bad, it can and probably will effect his mind at times. High ammonia levels can really mess with a person's mind, and it can happen quickly.
