Isn't St George like 20% black? It's not like the whole parish gets to vote on it.

No doubt, but it's crystal clear to me that little will change initially.

Think about it, what services does the Parish provide us right now that we will lose?
Permitting and inspections? Currently that's a disaster.
Road maintenance, cleanup, drainage? There's little of that.

We will still have the same Shetiff, FD, garbage, sewer, parks, libraries, Mosquitto conttol, and EMS.

What's left?

Far removed and ignorant about SG, but would this mean all infrastructure will be a SG cost? Water/sewage, trash collection, streets etc etc

We pay a parish taxes for two road plans and street maintenance.

FD is an independent taxing district already thriving.

Trash is a parish wide fee.

Water is private.

EMS, library parks, etc. is all parish wide taxes.

And schools are not part of this.
City Hall would be.

For 50 million dollars I think we will have more than enough to cover our bases.

That seems about right, but I really don't know.

The state of La. is 32.5% black per the census do in reality SG isn't that far from the average.

I would want to know the financial impact on the cost of doing this before voting, but who cares.

This city's future was set back in the 80's while other similar cities in the south kept passing us up. It's too far gone now to fix everything from crime, schools, traffic, business opportunities, health care, you name it!

So... SWB admits that St George will claim a shite ton of money from unincorporated EBR that BR is using to balance its books yet St George will have higher property taxes?

For what?

FD is already covered by the St George fire district.

Garbage is parish wide. Water is private. Gas is private. Police would be contracted through EBRSO, which already covers the area. Schools aren’t part of this yet because it has to pass a separate vote.

What is there to cause property taxes to go up? BR expecting all property in the parish to pony up to pay their bills?

Again, sorry for ignorance. But it sounds like any tax base within the SG boundary would be stripped from BR and the Parrish. Am I wrong to think BR and the Parrish would object to supplying services without just compensation?

The new city will pay its prorated portion of parish costs.

Filling the deficit in the budget covering spending in BR proper? Not St George’s problem.

And what services are the city of BR actually providing? Read over the thread and nearly everything is either parish wide or is already being paid for by St George like the fire districts.

She wants it pushed to November 2019 election where turnout is higher and they don't have to mobilize voters twice.

Edited with correct year.

November 2019 (Governor election), not 2020 (presidential election).

A judge would slap JBE silly if he tried to put it off for 20 months.

You are wrong. Read the comments in this thread.

The mayor admitted last week that she needs the money to balance the parish budget. The rough numbers were a 50 million dollar loss to the parish general fund. 28 million of that would be offset by not having to provide services that SG would eventually provide.

They are alarmed by that 22 million dollar hole. Keep in mind that's their numbers, it could be worse than that.

Thats not including the 17M in the hole the EBR parish school system is in and had to raid the rainy day funds to pay that. They only have 9M left in it now. Next year they will have to pay the piper.

Yes but there are few places here that are average. Most places in LA are either far above or far below that percentage.
