The year 2020 is one massive case study that further proves this theory is correct.

I've been saying for over a decade that most major cities need to have a blight budget
I also think that property owners should not have a decade to pay back property taxes. If you are behind on your taxes for 5 years, you lose the right to that property. If the property is not sold within the next 12 months, the property is demolished by the city using funds from the blight budget.

Property taxes exist, so you just need to deal with that.
What are you talkin about when you say that I want to put them on steroids? I am talking about properties left to rot because taxes are in arrears. For example, areas in Louisiana allow property taxes to be in arrears for upwards of 10 years before those properties can be put up for auction. That is absurd, and it perpetuates problems with blight.

I think some of them have tried, but gave up when they realized it was just throwing money into a bottomless pit. Most major cities would rather ignore their blight or try to gentrify around it

It's looking at systematic policing. That more serious cases of crime are the result of a lengthier chain of events. That crime comes from disorder and if you address the disorder you prevent the more serious crimes.
IMO the issue with the theory is that it's a bit simplistic in that it doesn't take into account of lot of other variables, like poverty and systematic issues associated with it. It can also be manipulated to encourage over policing and over criminalization of non-violent crimes.

For her many, many faults. SWB made blight removal a major push of her administration when she first took office. Remember her spending all the money fixing streetlights, towing away burned out cars and cutting abandoned lots? What the hell happened to that?
It’s like she forgot about the one single thing she was doing right.
Heck, I remember when the prior administration was on a campaign of tearing down abandoned houses. That was great as well.

Right
The idea is based on the belief that if people are surrounded by broken windows and blighted buildings, they will care less about their community and themselves and will be more willing to commit crime.

While if broken down to expand to all the variables it would lose water, on the surface it seems about right. As a entire overview of the situation.
