It makes sense in some circumstances. Say a couple makes a family together and part of the marriage is that a woman forgoes a career to raise the family. Then 20 years later they get a divorce. She sacrificed the ability to develop a career to help build a life for both of them and freed up time for the husband to better build his career. She played a role in what he built in that circumstance, and it's impossible to unravel what is whose.
But if a chick just marries some rich guy after he already made it a little later in life then that argument becomes a little harder to make. Also, the incredible levels of alimony that some of these wealthy pay are just ridiculous regardless of circumstance. It's also just too traditional and outdated for a lot of people. If the woman is perfectly capable of having her own career as is often the case nowadays then it doesn't make much sense either.

Divorce reform is desperately needed in this country. The current (and outdated) system is unethical and morally wrong.
Legal theft is all it is.
Legal theft is all it is.

Meet Lily Safra, who is worth $1.2 billion obtained through multiple marriages.

Debatable, but yes. I always thought he was awful at his job.

That still doesn't make sense. Split the net worth. That is fine. Monthly payments to an adult post marriage should be illegal.

And if the worth is not liquid and is in future earnings, how do you split that? Or the wealthier party wants to negotiate future payments rather than giving up current assets then you should take away that ability to negotiate what works for an individual, right?

This piece of pussy was worth $9 million?

With Honors was good. And it got a good Cult classic following thanks to Ronald Miller turning into McDreamy.

Wait...isn’t paying the gold digging skank $50k per month bad?
Jan 31, 2019 he had to pay the skank 50,000 a month for ten years which comes out to 6 million. In other words he is done paying for the skank.

He wasnt in a lot of movies but he was in several big movies that made a pretty decent stack. Thats also back when they would still get cuts off the box office. To this day he still probably gets a royalties check from his biggest movies.

Hulk Hogan's wife asked for all of his future earnings. Why is this a thing since they are no longer married? I get it if she put him through med school.
In this case, she rode along, and just enjoyed the fruit of his labor.

So when he was paying this woman $50k a month. What if during that time he was unable to act anymore and had to work a 9 to 5 job making $70k a year. Would he still have to pay $50k to the ex or does the amount he has to pay her based on a percentage he makes?

Whatever you do, don't google BJ Fraser. Or enable safe search.

Impossible
KR is possibly the worst actor and 47 Ronin should have banned him from ever acting again. Bad enough they took a real story and went all FUBAR with it but on top of it he still can not act any better after all these years in the business.
