BREC getting ready to ask voters to renew millages; however,

after three years they are finally audited and apparently a big scandal was covered up.
Someone stole 67K and BREC only got a third of those dollars back. No wonder they ducked audits for three years. No jail time was involved.

EBR has a good park system, but I have to wonder about oversight. I also wonder if they get more tax dollars than they need.
With property assessments jumping up and roll back of millages a hot topic; I think BREC should be carefully scrutinized.

BREC gets about 3x the funding that it actually needs. But EBR voters will still renew and add new millages whenever given the chance.

Understood, but it is a public entity and should be looked at hard by the voting public.
FWIW
There are 9 commissioners. 6 are appointed by the CP Council, 1 is the Mayor or their appointee. One is appointed by the School Board and the other by CP Planning Commisfion.
So BREC is largely run by the same politicians who run parish government.

Apparently it’s in BRPD’s hands (shocker).

It’s always sad when the right wingers don’t want to support the park system here. Liberals depend on those parks to deal drugs in and lgbt people use the bathrooms for “encounters”

My wife worked for BREC and said the corruption, mismanagement, and unaccountability in that organization is 10x worse than the public can imagine.

I live across the street from a BREC park. Aside from them paying to have the grass mowed, I can’t see where they are spending any money there.

the answer is yes. Brec has tons of cash. I can go to any park and pick out 100 things that need doing to make each better. They just do not do it.

Take a look at your property tax notice and you will see that BREC funding exceed BRPD. That makes not sense. Where does all that money go?

Yes we use and like Brec parks. But damn I’m tired of governmental corruption and waste. And I’m tired of being taxed to death here. But Brec is one of the few things this parish does right and I’m getting to actually use things my taxes support. Im conflicted.

I only wish as a St George resident, I could find someway to not pay for this bullshite at all.
They should relocate the BREC office to being under the tutelage of SG and let someone here handle it..
Every EBR parish office handling money is likely corrupt. Investigate and throw some people in fricking jail.
