KNOE has spoken with a family member who says she was there at the time of the attack. She shared a different version of events with us.

The family member says the dog that attacked the child was not a pit bull; it was a mastiff.

She also says father of the child was supervising the child who was playing outside. The child tried to walk past the mastiff, which was on a lengthy chain in the yard, to get a ball.

According to the family member, the family does own pit bulls and one of those pit bulls came to the defense of the child.

She says the mastiff belonged to another family member, not a friend.

We are reaching out to Gramling Police again for clarification on their previous statement.

--------------------------

Police were called to a Grambling home Monday after a pit bull attacked a 7-year-old boy.

It happened around 2:30 in the afternoon on Medgar Evers Drive.

According to Grambling Police, say the child got too close to a chained pit bull in his backyard and the dog attacked. The boy's father managed to pull the boy away from the dog.

The boy suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport where he underwent surgery.

The pit bull was put down immediately.

Police say the dog did not belong to the family. They were keeping it for a friend.

These incidents still always occur in low income areas where these dogs aren’t socialized, aren’t exercised (usually in small apartments or locked up outside), and, most importantly, aren’t spayed/neutered.

It’s a disaster for dogs that have an aggressive temperament. Be fricking responsible

People can train any dog to be mean. And those people who do, should be fed to dogs.

I've seen mean golden retrievers.

More likely it was fighting over its food.

I have no idea how you can confuse a mastiff with a pit bull.

They had both breeds on the property. I'm guessing, the bigoted Grambling police automatically assumed one of the Pits did the attacking.

I have a German Shepherd puppy. I am not training him to be mean or even attack. Once he is a year old, he will protect my family and my property on his own. If that's being mean then you can become his dog food by coming uninvited.
