Brand new, in the package tools being sold on Craigslist in large volumes

When looking on Craigslist over the years, I've noticed several sellers offering a large volume of tools that are brand new and still in their packaging. They have stuff from saw blades to electrical testing meters to power tools. One seller had a listing with a variety
of tools. It looked like he walked into Lowes and just started clearing pegs and shelves. You can go buy the same items at Lowe's today. He had Klein volt testers, hole saw sets, etc.
Is this stuff stolen, or are they buying in bulk from some mass discounter or something? These are currently available tools that are still being sold in stores, not discontinued stuff. I have just been leery of these sellers over the years.

Maybe he has a lot of kids and racks them up for Fathers Day. He may not be big into DIY but doesn’t want to disappoint the kids.

One would think that it wouldn't be hard to track still packaged items that are being sold on a public forum. Why are people allowed to continue to sell (likely) stolen goods?

Nah, not these listings/sellers. They were selling well before the looting and pillaging began.

Someone buying crates of customer returns or discontinued items. It's easy to buy that stuff if you know where to look.

Not true. Go to Liquidation.com and buy a pallet from Amazon.
There's other sites Home Depot, Walmart, and Lowe's use for their liquidation. It's easy to buy those pallets now days and is where many Ebay sellers get inventory.

I'm hard pressed in believing in the quest for tool manufacturers to turn a profit Lowe's is the only place they sell tools

Is it common for them to do that with items that are unopened and still currently being sold in stores? These aren't discontinued items. They are the same tools on the shelves right now. Same packaging, same model, same labels, same everything.

Alright. Lowe's, Home Depot, ACE, Amazon, local hardware stores. Take your pick. They all sell the same tools, currently, that secondary sellers are offering.

Yes. Walmart, Lowe's etc will trash and liquidate something for a ton of reasons. From as simple as the packaging being damaged so it's not floor worthy to manufacturers telling them to get rid of it for new models.
Also, could be customers buying a tool using it once and returning it claiming it was defective. It wasn't really but now it cant go back on the shelf. Its then sold in bulk with other returned units.
I've seen hardware stores destroy Dewalt tools by cutting the cords off because Dewalt discontinued them.
You'd be surprised about the secondary market and liquidations. It's a multi billion dollar market and growing.

Yeah, they probably contract with Willie that lives down by the trailer park, not in the trailer park, he's better than that, but down by the trailer park. On their way to town, the truck swings by Willie's, you know he has that driveway with a loop so the truck doesn't have to back up to turn around. Anyway.....the truck driver drops off Willie's order of 3 of each tool bi-weekly. That's every other week, not twice a week. You know there's confusion when it comes to that. Anyway....ol' Willie is hoping to move away from that trailer park just as soon as his big time Craigslist sales start to pick up. You know he ain't gonna remember us....all big for his britches and stuff.
