I fully understand what you're saying, and I know people who buy/sell liquidated goods. These listings just have a different vibe to them, though.

This for sure, any "new" name brand power tool on Ebay today is likely a Chinese knockoff, and they are very good copies, no one would know by the outside appearance and construction , but the motors and internal parts very inferior. Same story for electical and plumbing equipment and fittings. Amazon is also particularly bad aout this, I have to return two "My Pillows" bought on Amazon because they are fakes.

So i learned of a store is going out of business sometimes they will take lot offers to offload stock. Sears did this when they were closing a bunch of stores. One day the one in Hammond had a ton of stuff, the next day empty.

Very likely a lot of this ends up online.

This could be appropriate. My friends neighbor is trying to sell me a shotgun for 40 bucks. It’s a REVELATION 350A 12GA. Do I bite on this? Dudes kinda weird. I told him I want a bill of sale with serial numbers.

I’ve always wondered if Amazon return specialist open packages and replace with dirt or rocks and seal them back up if they know it’s going to a pallet.

I have bought a lot of Festool from eBay buying from the same dealers that have websites and B&M stores but using eBay bucks and coupons to buy them cheaper since Festool is sold MSRP only.

"The members of PTI (Power Tool Institute) have become aware of certain sales activities where persons claim to be sales representatives of major power tool manufacturers, have just finished working at a tradeshow and want to go home without their tool samples. These people typically sell power tools from the trunk of their rental car for what seems to be bargain basement prices for tools such as rotary hammers, grinders, cordless tools and combination kits. The unsuspecting buyer often finds out these tools are counterfeit only after they open the boxes and begin to use them. Soon the tools fail and they attempt to have them serviced at manufacturer’s service centers.

PTI members have also become aware of counterfeit tools being sold on the Internet on some auction sites. When found, these sales sites are reported and often shut down.

Major manufacturers targeted include Bosch, Hilti, DeWalt, Makita and Milwaukee. These tools may be dangerous as well as of poor quality. The tools are obviously not tested and approved by a respectable lab, such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL) or Canadian Standards Association (CSA), although in some cases the tool may bear a UL or CSA sticker. These counterfeit tools are sometimes being sold with stickers from large retail outlets on the cases as well. The PTI members are concerned that use of these tools may lead to injuries or damage due to their poor quality and unsafe construction.

PTI reminds the public that if the price for a branded power tool seems to good to be true, it probably is. You should only purchase power tools from reputable retailers and distributors. Members of the PTI are involved with state and federal law authorities in criminal investigations. Several arrests have been made in this counterfeit activity. The public's help is needed in stopping the problem. If someone suspicious approaches you or someone you know makes these types of offers, refuse the sale and report the action to local authorities and to manufacturers of the tool that was counterfeited.
