Brake issues. Mechanics of the OT any idea

Just had front and rear brakes done at a shop I go to all the time. Driving on the interstate and start hearing a grinding noise. Get off the interstate and when I stop at the red light it’s like the brakes were stuck. Made a worse sound until I got up to speed, then just the light grinding noise. WTF is going on?

Make model miles? Were the rotor or rim smoking hot on the the wheel with the grinding noise?

I've had disc brakes make a grinding noise when a caliper wasn't torqued to the bracket adequately, and had come loose. IDK about the other symptoms you mention, though

Try cutting the brake lines to bleed the air out then take it for a spin.

Definitely calipers. Same issue on my wife’s van a couple years back. Once you drove a few miles it would loosen up but short trips it would make a horrible grinding noise. Replaced both front calipers and problem solved.

A reputable shop? Sounds like they did not grease the caliper pins and now they are sticking.

They probably did not properly lube the caliper pins and pad hardware along with the back pad shim. The pads are unevenly releasing from the rotor. One part is still touching and is making the pad rattle and vibrate, making the noise you hear. Any other cause would be serious, like loose bracket bolts or wrong rotors rubbing. I have even seen pads put on backwards with the metal agaist the rotor.

They probably put metric brake pads on when they should have put standard brake pads on
