We aren't talking about a weekday at rush hour. We are talking about a random Saturday. Miles and mikes of gridlock on both sides of the bridge.

I understand anti-tax sentiment. I understand NIMBYs. But when will the people of this state collectively decide that this shite has to end, and resolve to find a way to make it happen?

Don't want to pay taxes? Okay, so let's build shite with tolls. It needs to happen today. Yesterday. Years ago.

Whatever new roads or bridges are built will assuredly be racist in some way or another.

This state is 40 years behind on everything concerned with roads. My dad used to tell me some of the same projects they talk about today, they talked about 30-40 years ago.

As long as our politicians continue to be as corrupt as they are, this will continue to be the case.

When I lived in BR taxes for infrastructure were put on the ballot and voted down constantly

Mayor Bitch is trying to get a tax passed for roads so they are fricking the the timing in traffic lights to frustrate folks into voting for it.

Whitey ain't voting for a property tax.

The federal funding would pay for the majority for an upgrade to the bridge interstate.

Been living in BR since 3rd grade. I would say we halfway kept up until Katrina. Improvements before then made a difference and things were getting better. Been downhill since then no matter how much money they throw at it.

With regards to tax increases. Last I checked taxes on anything haven't gone down. If the system is mismanaging the money they have already is it a guarantee more money will fix it?

Seems like they spend more on studies than anything...

A short example of the mismanagement;

My 20 year old subdivision in BR is getting new streets. The asphalt does need an overlay and there are some sub grade failures and sidewalk failures that need repair.

-They have spent 3+ months tearing out EVERY sidewalk corner to make it handicap/blind capable (with the bumps in the transition). I have yet to see a blind person or person in a wheelchair trying to navigate the sidewalks. The existing rollover curb was fine for occasional handicap use.
-They have torn out perfectly good sections of curb/gutter for no reason.
-They are planning to mill out and replace all paving instead of just repairing the sub grade failures and doing an overlay.

This is just in one small 180 house subdivision. With inefficiency like this there is no amount of money that will fix the problem.

I'm starting to think that they frick with the light timing so people vote for the mayor's proposed road taxes.

This ought to really piss ya off. Spread it to any who didn't know.
There was a plan to build 61 into I-410 to accompany 10 and 110.

quote:

Interstate 410 Louisiana

Status Western Terminus Eastern Terminus

Proposed Routing

Originally proposed in the 1960s and 1970s as a freeway connecting Interstate 110 with Interstate 12 via U.S. 61-190/Airline Highway in Baton Rouge, Interstate 410 (unofficial designation) recently resurfaced as a modern version of a Baton Rouge bypass. This new, tolled freeway would extend from Interstate 10 west of Louisiana 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish near Port Allen east to Interstate 12 in Walker in Livingston Parish via the U.S. 190 bridge over the Mississippi River and through Central and Denham Springs.

Its not that I oppose increased taxation, I just have zero faith in local government to properly use the revenue

Not really, at least as far as the interstate system is concerned. I've been in BR since '92 and even then the new bridge backed up past 415 at least 2 times a week. Now it's every fricking day. Politicians talk a big game but they don't give a rat's arse about traffic, unless they are trying to pass a tax that they know will partially line their pockets and pockets of friends and families that get the bids or studies to fix things. I love this State mainly because of friends and family, but our infrastructure is laughable.

Yall should have seen the late 80s when all of Perkins and sherwoood/siegen were 2 lanes, bluebonnet was only Perkins to Jefferson, and Coursey didn't exist.
