Prohibiting LSU classes from starting before 10 a.m. would be one of the options studied to ease Baton Rouge traffic problems under legislation that won approval Tuesday in the House Transportation Committee.

The measure, Senate Concurrent Resolution 12, cleared the House panel without objection and next faces action in the full House.

It breezed through the state Senate 35-0 on April 4.

The measure would set up a study group that includes officials of the LSU Board of Supervisors, the Louisiana Workforce Commission and the state Department of Transportation and Development.

The group would be charged with recommending "creative and alternative options" to trim daily traffic backups that have plagued Baton Rouge for years.

How does that help the clusterfrick that is daily afternoon traffic from 4-7 pm in BR?

Well if this genius idea of changing LSU class times is the best they have, then i don't trust this group of dumbasses to pour water out of a boot with the instructions on the heel.

I guess. Although a lot of students live on campus or near enough to campus that they probably don’t impact traffic across the city so much.

Maybe BR needs to synchronize traffic lights and build a loop.

Now if they would just have all state and city-parish employees start work at 8 pm it would really alleviate some pressure.

This is gonna get some shite, but could actually be a pretty decent idea. Too many buses on the road at rush hour, especially the two lane bullshite that is Nicholson between Tigerland and Brightside, can really shite on traffic as a whole. Keeping those buses off the roads until after 9 could be genius.

I agree with your statement in part but you have to agree that when local high schools are not in session, the morning commute does get considerably easier.

I'd love to see any data traffic engineers have on days where LSU was closed compared to the days it is open.

What are you, a retard? Eveyone knows it's those damned freshmen going to their 7 am biology class that is screwing up all of BR's traffic...

What morons introduced this stupid shite?

I will say that my morning and afternoon commutes are noticeably quicker during the Summer and right around the holidays when school is out. Morning especially.

I can't say how much of that is LSU and how much is parents dropping off/picking up from K-12 schools though.

Driving around during LSU's spring break was amazing, like a new world.

So why does traffic suck when it's spring break or summer time?

the article states this was discussed and decided to bring them in...which I find hilarious

Most of the comments focused on the makeup of the study panel, and the need for officials of Southern University to be included, and maybe more.

Not a traffic engineer, but when I worked there my daily commute wasn't affected by LSU classes being in session or not. It was affected by whether or not the area schools were though.
