That Buffalo chicken sandwich on Wednesday with a beer was my favorite BR lunch.

Though they burned down, didn't really close.

Yeah, they did. You can see it from I-59, right next to a couple hotels

That’s not the original location though. Originally it was tucked right off campus in a really old building. Funny thing about it is that it was more of a bar than anything, food was just kind of an afterthought. It was like the Bogeys of Hattiesburg. My roommate was a cook there and always brought food home. Their grilled chicken club on those sourdough buns were amazing. Almost as good as the burgers.

How are we defining “went out of business”? A lot of the places mentioned were doing fine financially, their owners simply no longer wished to operate them.

Half price apps happy hour was the shite at the Caterie.

Every Friday. You could get 3 or 4 apps for under 10 bucks. The daily happy hour was awesome when beers were only a dollar, as well.

I can’t think of “burned down” and “Hattiesburg” in the same sentence without thinking of Chesterfields.

I have never heard of a restaurant which had more coincidental fires than them, let alone on a night where they cleaned out the liquor cabinet.

The kicker? They sold the location to a drug store (CVS?) and bulldozed it and then the rubble caught on fire.

Did Copeland’s finally go under? If so, that’s my vote

The one in Monroe is still alive. Guess that could be thanks to Dr King.

The one on Essen is still open but not from a lack of trying by the staff and management.

Haven’t been back since the started remodeling half the restaurant for Batch 13 and couldn’t satisactorily explain what Batch 13 was or why they would do it. Best explanation I got was pretty much “We want a portion of the restaurant where we can overhaul the menu on a whim.

What timeframe was the real superstore open? I feel like it's been a vacant building my whole life.

I grew up not far from there so we used to hit up the Superstore quite a bit. I think it opened in the mid-80s. Maybe 1985 and it closed sometime in the mid-90s, like maybe between 95' and 97'.

I seem to recall their business being irreparably hurt by that National Supermarkets strike in the early 90s. I remember picketers and such in the areas surrounding the parking lot.

Thought this was cool. It's the website of the architects for the store and there are a few pics. Lots of nostalgia.

The Times off of Essen in BR

Unbelievable burgers. Damn shame that place is gone.

Frick I remember getting my car washed and eating lunch there. Great blue cheese burger and a bad arse chef salad.

Miss that place, although I ate there much more than I should have. Iirc I got the McDonald a lot and got the mad shites from it.

Chelsea's had some legit grilled cheese back when I last went. That place was good.
