Well fortunately(or unfortunately, depending on what side you are on), we are a democracy and citizens are allowed to have their voice heard and the majority of those heard were in favor of the continued success of our library system.

Unfortunately, the vote of the Ed Hardy t-shirt wearing crowd counts exactly the same as yours or mine.

Well, "keep getting elected" isn't true at all since he's only been elected once and is still in his first term. And he was running against Smokie Bourgeois, a fairly polarizing figure himself. I'm sure plenty of people wouldn't mind having that vote back.

And these are our choices so far come October:

Smokie: a horse's arse's horse's arse

Delgado: so much of a douche he literally reeks of vinegar

And Sharon Weston Broome...is, well, Sharon Weston Broome.

Do they still send potential jury members to wait in the library? If so, most of those patrons would have never set foot in the library if not for being called for jury duty, should tax money be spent on a waiting room annex for the court house?

No. The new courthouse has huge areas specifically to keep the jury pool in one place throughout the process. Now they make you watch a movie, after Judge Fields does his standup routine.

Jurors might wander over to the library on their lunchbreak, but they're not herded over to the library anymore.

I voted for the tax, and I don't use the library. I believe the unintended consequences of not having decent libraries are worse. I've also paid for public schools for the past 20 years even though I don't have kids.

Those aren't the tax dollars I mind spending. I'd rather have that than plan B, which would end up being government subsidized Amazon book club memberships and tax-payer assisted Cox high speed internet for anyone making <$40k/hr. This would of course, be paid for by some tax increase that I'm NOT allowed to vote in, probably to the tune of way more than that library is asking for.

Can you seriously imagine what would happen if Baton Rouge (population: 50% black) stopped public funding of the library system? Every smug, self-righteous left wing media nut job you could think of would descend upon this town.

Why would I care about that?

frick Delgado . he is an uneducated POS. The libraries are sanctuaries. I go 2 times a week . I can explore different worlds, read about topics from all over like gardening, engineering, science fiction, and history. Its a good peaceful place top study too. Alot of people are there.

I'm another a-hole who voted for the library and BREC taxes. Of course, the library tax was renewed with 58 percent of the vote and BREC got 60 percent of the vote last time it was up for renewal, so it seems the majority of people in East Baton Rouge are pleased with the current system.

The headline is misleading.

Delgado was simply questioning if $14,000+/month was wise to spend on a "temporary" library when only 250 go per day. He is aware of all the benefits of a library.

I think $14,000 for a temporary library is way too much, especially before you look at other options.

So those bitching about your tax dollars, Delgado is actually trying to spend your money wisely and not wastes on temporary rent.

FWIW, Delgado is an alumni of Tulane law school.

I'm assuming you are a Rhodes scholar that studied at Oxford? Right...

The library and BREC are sitting on tens of millions in cash reserves. Both need their funding cut, and both can survive just fine. Meanwhile, the interstate shut down again today.

I take my daughter to the downtown library all the time. Most of the patrons are homeless. We always go upstairs to the children's section and have the place to ourselves 99% of the time. So... he's actually correct.
Part of the problem though is that there is no parking. So if someone were going to drive to a library, downtown isn't the one they would visit.

My family visits the library. Beats actually paying for something even though my taxes do.

Worked at the library off of Congress in Lafayette for a summer work program. Same thing there. Nobody ever said anything unless they were in the kids section.
