I know someone at a firm that tells me some of their large commercial clients are damn near demanding that they have more diversity or else they can't do business with them in the future.
So hire some unqualified tokens to frick up our future work or we can't be in business together.

Purely observational here but every white dude lawyer I know has money

I work close to the PE field, and I can tell you a lot of foreign investors really, really care about ESG and similar type scores. Like leave even with insane IRR type care.
