I wear one pretty much everyday. I get complimented on them all the time. I use to wear them with suspenders when I was a bit heavier and woman loved it even when I was a fat frick. I'm going to go back to suspenders once I hit target weight.

If you're doing the whole bowtie + shorter/tighter pants with crazy socks thing, pass.
If you're just a good-lookin' snazzy dresser that's switching it up a bit (but not all the time), it's okay.

My brother's father-in-law flew attack jets off carriers in Viet Nam. He told me if you want to get a woman's attention, wear a pink shirt and a bow tie.
