Why was this thread written then?
Because we have an idiot for a mayor that meddles in shite that doesn't need meddling. See the statues as Exhibit A.

Would be great if the VCC and VC Property Owners vetoed these things as not compliant with the Tout ensemble of the rest of the FQ.

Are the people VISITING bourbon street really the problem Mitch?
Posted on 3/14/17 at 10:08 am to man in the stadium
The city is leaking money & Mitch will never get the funds to pay for any of this B.S. There are just so many taxes that the City Council can levy on shops, bars, and motels as those taxes are just passed on to the visitors. He'll never get any of these proposals passed.

First off the iberville projects aren't even there anymore and when they were they were one of the lower crime riddled projects first off
They were a shithole responsible for alot of crimes committed in the area.
Also, the neighborhoods surrounding the quarter are shitty. I know there are some nice houses in those neighborhoods, but the neighborhood as a whole is still very beaten down. (7th ward, st. roch, central city)

, would involve adding trees, planters, benches and other furniture to the roadway.
Great idea Mitch this will create the artificial cover I need to jump behind when the next gun fight breaks out. It will also do wonders for traffic flow during Mardi Gras.

I don't know what it would take to get us there, but the FQ needs more Erin Roses and Chart Rooms and fewer Razoos (sp?).
I think Bourbon St is a huge burden on the rest of the FQ.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s long-term plan
I stopped reading there.
He is clueless as to what his constituents want from their mayor.

The final touch, once city officials have erected bollards blocking off vehicles from several blocks of Bourbon, would involve adding trees, planters, benches and other furniture to the roadway.
Always kinda suspected Mitch was gay.

The dumb thing about this is that Bourbon St isn't the problem. The crime isn't because of Bourbon St.
Typical style-over-substance stuff.
Do something cosmetic. Just so it looks like you're doing SOMETHING.

I'm for making Bourbon Street less trashy.....I'm just not for a trashy arse Landrieu running that effort.

I personally hate Bourbon St. But I love that it's there. It keeps the douchebags away from the parts of Nola that I want to hang. If this happens, Frenchmen St will officially become strictly for tourists. I'm glad I got to enjoy it in 09/10, before the change began.

You know what would change the culture? Public restrooms, security caneras, and NOLA cops, judges, and prosecutors doing their damn jobs to put violent thugs away.
Posted on 3/14/17 at 11:16 am to jbgleason
How do benches and trees deter crime?
None of the changes do anything to deter criminal behavior or keep it in check.
In his brain, making the area look nice will somehow cause crime to go away. I guess in the same line of thinking as taking down monuments will make everyone love each other and treat each other with respect.

How about if you are wearing a tank top, bandana, basketball jersey and/or pants below waist you are automatically removed from Bourbon Street?

More police presence would have the biggest effect. Perhaps the money being spent on installing benches, trees, and removing statues could be spent on police salaries?
