What idiots voted for Mitch in the first place? What is new orleans' obsession with the Landrieu's?

Yea, frick all those businesses that get shite delivered everyday by truck.
exactly... people completely forget that the FQ is a working neighborhood. You can't just cut off access. When I lived on the 1200 block of bourbon, I had a school behind me, a laundry mat, post office, hardware store, barber, grocery store all within two blocks.... you can't just cut all the access off.

I had a hard time certain times a day do to people in the car pool line picking up their kids from school, and that was on the river side of bourbon

The dumb thing about this is that Bourbon St isn't the problem. The crime isn't because of Bourbon St.

This.

But it's the only street that the country cares about. A picture of a soccer mom under a crime scene tarp with a bloodstained hand clutching a Hurricane Glass from Pat O''s will shut that city down.

What are things like on Frenchman? Or any of the other places you locals who "hate The Quarter" like to go? Not being a smartass, I actually do not know.

The history and nature of The Quarter make it impossible to patrol as they have it now. It is TINY due to the fact that it's layout is for horse and carriage. Now you pack it with more people and cars than it was ever designed to hold. Actually the entire Quarter could be blocked off after a certain time each day. To get in you must prove residence, pay a "cover", or have some pass (service industry or hotel guests).

How to you put a checkpoint on every single entry to bourbon street? That sounds expensive as frick to implement.

More expensive than extra officers?

Some years they do this, some years they don't. I support it. There are only a hand full of legal parking spots on the inner blocks and they are all taken early in the day. Cars shouldn't be allowed in the middle of the quarter during peak days. It creates one huge cluster frick and if an emergency vehicle needed to get in or out they are screwed.

ETA: Not every day, just major events. And police use barricades on all the streets with one ways headed into the quarter. They have had officers at a few of the major intersections letting residents and business owners through.

What you are doing right now ain't working? You are one big event away from The Quarter being as appealing as Tiajuana. It would be a MAJOR job to pull off, but so will any change made that actually makes a difference.

Clueless seems appropriate here.

The only way you'd make a difference is by shutting down the appeal of the area, which would not be a good thing.

ok

I bet you said this a couple years ago when the azn fella shot 8 bystandards on the 700 block of bourbon although since we have broken records on the amount of tourist... it was all over the nightly national news

Of course the crime needs to be curbed but you are being a bit dramatic

I wouldn't go as far as to say the entire quarter on a daily basis, but pedestrian malls like on Royal Street already close for parking/through traffic on a regular basis. These areas could be slightly expanded.

Consider the amount of time it takes to cross bourbon in either direction. It's a traffic nightmare and people from out of town are clueless.
