Boston Marathon to scrap qualifying times for inclusivity

If you’ve ever dreamed of running the Boston Marathon but couldn’t meet the strict qualifying standards, worry no more. On Tuesday morning, the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) announced plans to eliminate qualifying times for 2027 and 2028 in a bold move to make the iconic race more inclusive.
quote:
Introduced in 1970 to manage growing participation and maintain a high level of competition, qualifying times have long been a hallmark of the Boston Marathon. However, following a record number of applicants for the 2025 race, the B.A.A. acknowledged in a statement that they couldn’t pass up the opportunity to embrace a more open approach—and let’s face it, capitalize on demand.
quote:
A B.A.A. spokesperson shared the race’s ambitious plans to open the starting line in Hopkinton, Mass., to upwards of 80,000 runners by 2027 or 2028. The ultimate goal? Outshine their rivals to the south, the New York City Marathon, and become the first U.S. marathon to boast 100,000 finishers in a single year.

So it’s really not about inclusion. It’s just a BS feel good reason for more participation and more money.

You could say that the Boston Marathon’s popularity is really blowing up.

And it will lose any allure it had shortly after. It's only special because of the exclusivity. Same as Augusta National.
Dumb decision.
Dumb decision.

Sounds like they wanna generate more entry fee revenue and are spinning it like some sort of SJW bs.

Real runners will still know that this will forever change the elite status of the Boston Marathon.
It'll just be another big city race.

I figured it was fake when I saw the headline. Boston's whole thing is being elitist, they don't give a frick about inclusivity

It's about damn time. I can't wait to compete this year! I'll finish in 19 hours, easy.

For a more enraging prank, they should have said that it was ordered by the White House as part of the "new DEI" to allow real Americans to participate instead of the Kenyans that filled all the slots when only merit was considered.

Article posted April 1st, 2025.
It’s fake.
If you read the article, which of course few of you did, the final words of it are “April Fools”
But so many of you dumbasses saw the word “inclusivity” and jumped to outrage because you’re so easily tricked.
