Oh no. This is different. New Orleans streets are at least laid out in a way that you can navigate. A grid for the most part. Not Boston. Streets go any fricking direction they want.
The street grid in Boston and Pittsburgh confuse the hell out of me.
The Boston drivers earn the Masshole designation too.

We were surprised by the gangs openly walking around the streets in the tourist areas

Boston is my favorite American city by far. Would move there in a heartbeat if the wife would move.

Boston is probably my second favorite American city. Nyc is #1.

Sounds like Nola. Street names start and stop, and change as frequently as the cars. Nothing like getting lost in the crescent city.
The names usually change once, at Canal. And the layout follows the river. You just can't use cardinal compass points.

I'll agree. The recruiting hub is in Boston so we spent a bit of time there - playing tourist when we could. The Connie and the historic sites are beyond. And Cheers isn't too bad, either. My then wife loved the little Italy part being she's 2nd generation Italian removed. All in all, it's a great town. Driving in it sucks, though.

I've only been once but thoroughly enjoyed it. I had a culture shock from the outset though. I got there before the rest of my crew so I had a few hours to kill solo and went to the closest bar which was practically empty at the time. I go to the bartender and ask if I can start a tab and the surly gruff man behind the bar says "you gonna buy something?"

A bunch of Massholes if you ask me.
Mass - holes
Mass - holes

Well this is certainly where I parked my car.
Glad you enjoyed Boston.
There are definitely pockets of bad homelessness (someone mentioned Methadone Mile - that’s the prime example for sure), but overall it is limited to very few places and it’s a bit outside the city.

Nola's street layout is actually pretty easy to follow. Now, as far as actually navigating the streets, that is a different story...

6. They’re patriotic as frick. Their definitions may differ from most southern people’s but they definitely are outspoken about about what freedom means to them.
I would like to hear you expand on this.
Upper middle class Bostonians are a bit more inclusive than what you see down South. It is a product of high achieving universities within the city. Harvard, MIT, and UMass all attract international students who are generally top notch. As with most Northeastern cities, politics skews left of center but Boston has never lost is "Murica frick yeah" identity.

I actually see the same thing where I am
And I think it has to do with 9/11
The Yankees are also one of the only teams that still does god bless America in the 7th inning
And every fan is sitting and singing

I was in Boston in July and I totally agree. Fantastic city. I was very impressed.

I’d argue they’re more patriotic up there... no rebel/traitor flags and split loyalty

I will say that the most patriotic event I’ve ever witnessed first hand was the celebration in the Common the night they caught the Marathon Bomber. Hundreds of people flooded the area and were drinking beer and high fiving and applauding an exhausted police force. Waving American flags and chanting USA for hours.
It was pretty incredible.
It was pretty incredible.

Seriously though. My dad was born and raised Roxbury and I've heard some of his stories. Boston is more racist than people care to admit.
