Random sure, but I visited there recently.

I’ll do a travel board post about it soon, but the differences between Chicago and Boston were immediately apparent.

1. Very very few homeless people in Boston. I maybe saw 1 or 2 in Boston. Compared to 4 a day I. Chicago

2. The city proper was clean. Very rare for a big city. I spent a tiny amount of time in a suburb that may as well have been Alabama but the city itself people did seem inspired to do there part.

3. New Englanders are an honest people. Spoke for a bit with this old tough bird who was more shite kicking than most of the people on this site. Appreciated the way she was able to tell it as it was without being disrespectful.

4. Boston is low crime. Sure, that’s because no one who would commit a crime can afford to be in its vicinity, but whatever.

5. Boston has lots of green space. It’s. Ice to go to a beer garden in an actual park than an alleyway.

6. They’re patriotic as frick. Their definitions may differ from most southern people’s but they definitely are outspoken about about what freedom means to them.

7. Seafood

Negatives:
1. People seem louder. Some people were ear curdlingly loud at some bars. Never seen that in the south or the Midwest to that level. Annoying
2. Touristy. To be expected
3. With touristy comes some trashiness. I saw some people who I assume were tourists in tourist areas that I just don’t see very often outside of Walmart.
4. Expensive

New Englanders and Boston aren’t the same thing

I agree completely. And while they're operating at a faster pace than most of us are used to (like most people in large cities), I found them to be pretty friendly and helpful.

City is nice but would describe them as rude, arrogant, and dishonest...if we’re generalizing here

Was there in august and I have to disagree with a few points...

Very very few homeless people in Boston.

We saw a good bit in our 4 day stay there. Uber driver gave us a tour of "Methadone Mile" too. WOW. Honestly, it was impressive.

Seafood

Not sure if your saying it was good or just that they have a lot. The 2 or 3 seafood dishes we had while there were "meh" at best. We were staying right across from Legal Seafood at The Revere Hotel and tried it one day for lunch and it was just as plain as could be. They were recommended by a few people as a MUST TRY. Nothing had any flavor. Best thing we had was the Caesar salad. Had clam chowder and shrimp tacos at another place and it was nothing to write home about either.

And one thing we noticed pretty much across the board wherever went to eat was that the waiters or waitresses seemed to be bothered by the fact that they had to serve us. Thats their job, no? They were just semi-rude and very short with us. It just seemed like a terrible inconvenience to them to have to deal with customers. Except at Maggianos. They were excellent. We went twice because it was so fricking good

I love these kinds of old-timey social observations.

This is the most accurate post in the thread

We Uber'd everywhere we went and noticed immediately that there was no rhyme or reason to the roads. AT ALL. All of our drivers said " Yea just kinda have to know where your going around heYAH". And they all drive as fast as possible and pretend like the traffic signs and lane markings are just suggestions.

Boston is fantastic. If it wasn’t so damn expensive I’d never leave. I still may not because of a lot of the reasons you mentioned, but damn it’s not cheap to live here.

So damn accurate. I have lived in both places and would have preferred to have settled in Boston instead of NYC. That being sad, frick whoever was in charge of designing the street layout.

Sounds like Nola. Street names start and stop, and change as frequently as the cars. Nothing like getting lost in the crescent city.

Oh no. This is different. New Orleans streets are at least laid out in a way that you can navigate. A grid for the most part. Not Boston. Streets go any fricking direction they want. And everyone does 40.

There are nice people everywhere I travel.
Nice people from Pennsylvania, Detroit, San Francisco, etc. The cities we all characterize as having nothing but rude folks.
Humans, typically, are inherently kind. It just takes years of getting roughed that turns folks rude.

Neither of those cities have a lot of homeless in the winter. For good reason.

My wife is from the Boston area and I really enjoy the visits every year. If it wasnt for the snow and months of cold, I'd move there in a heartbeat. I grew up outside of buffalo. I'm over northern winters.
