New problem (that doesn't concern me): No one wants to go into teaching because it doesn't pay the bills (which has been very well known for decades). Who teaches the kids??
That is an incredibly dumb position to take.
Hey, we’lol just have a crappier product for as many years till the market solves the problem.

When Bossier parish shows they can be fiscally responsible with the money, maybe they will get something passed. But hitting all property owners up for an average 30%+ property tax increase is bullshite.

Or give the test orally
As a Sped teacher for several years, I can say that is not in compliance. Only students who have an ARD, with oral testing in their IEP, are allowed to have the test read to them.

How old are you? You seem like someone who doesn't have a lot of life experience. I mean, you've never asked for a raise!!
I have a technology background and sold computers for 10 years until dot.com crash of the early 2000's. I immediately changed careers and became a Realtor (12 years) until the real estate bubble/crash of 2008/2012. Although I still hold an active real estate license, for the past 7 years I've been in a different career that pays well and I love it. Now, I only sell real estate when I feel like it.
As you can see, whenever something occurred in the industry that I was employed and had a negative effect on my income - I made a change. Every time, it ended up being for the better - - 6 figure incomes in all three career paths.
What I didn't do was worry about the industry after I left it or have a pity party for myself.

My point is you posted that
Merely pointing out she did not have to.
I buy stuff for the office all the time because it is easier than going through the procedure to do so...
There is a difference in doing something because you have to and doing something because it is easier or you just want to.
My sister-in-law is a teacher and this is all the fricking time...complaining about having to buy this or that for her class....when in fact it's just easier than actually putting in the purchase request or finding an alternative.

A 22.94-mill levy for raises for teachers and other school employees failed by a margin of 27% saying yes to 73% who voted no, according to complete but unofficial election results.
How out of touch with reality do you have to be to propose that big of an increase?
It’s almost like they wanted it to fail

Such a joke, I’m especially glad I voted no now. I know plenty of teachers and they make more per hours worked than most people do in other comparable fields. They can easily be replaced, I know plenty that teach that shouldn’t be teaching. I’m certain we can stir up a few teachers that would be more than willing to work a little more half the year and get compensated more than they are making now.

2) Moving money around the budget / firing admins?
This would be the correct action. Especially the firing of the admins.
Thank you Jimmy Carter for signing into being the glorious Department of Education and creating the need for all the red tape and bureaucracy in our school system. Our standards have gone ever higher and our students have gotten that much smarter because of you.
In reality, getting rid of that at the state and federal level would be the correct thing to do.

Webster revenue/student. Almost the exact same as Bossier's, they pay teachers 5 to 7% more.
no they don't....In Webster teachers start out at a higher wage than a starting teacher in Bossier, yes.
But in 4-5 years that Bossier teacher will be way above the same Webster teacher have had longevity bonuses and increases.
See the Webster teachers max out at like 49K with a PHD and 20 years of service.
That was a huge campaign stance of the Bossier teachers argument "look how much they make in Webster".
Yes when you compare first year to first year...which is not fair to Webster teachers who will get left behind in a few years on the pay scale.
ETA: I think teachers everywhere are grossly under paid to be in the war zones with kids that don't give a shite about anyone or anything but themselves and are taking over the schools. Teachers should make a ton of money for putting up with that if i were tasked with being a teacher i would end up in jail the first time someone through a racial slur at me and the administration was too scared to act on it. I would and i would be in jail and fired.
public schools are going down hill fast because the prisoners are running the prison and they know it. Not much learning anymore and the good kids are just trying to keep their heads down and survive.

Wish I could upvote more than once for this. Where did all the money from the casinos that was supposed to go to teacher pay increases, roads, etc? Everything goes into slush fund and disappears with ease just like every other government entity. This was a joke from the word go, this is bossier parish’s way of saying “well we tried” knowing good and damn well this wouldn’t pass.

Good for them. This is American as frick. Those teachers are underpaid and overworked. It’s a crime really and those kids will suffer because greedy assholes are worried about a few dollars in taxes
Lord I hope you’re not this stupid. You think it’s just about some property tax? Do you realize every business owner has to pay property tax on every piece of equipment they own? I’m certain you don’t own a business based on your response but you have no idea what business owners already pay to do business in bossier parish. Go do some research and get back to me dumbass

I've always maintained that we only need one dept of education - either state level or federal level. Not two.

Kind of makes you wonder. Same reason that my water bill is 3-4x higher than anywhere else in the state and the water is undrinkable.

Kind of like how a Bossier City Councilman lives in a $2 million dollar house in Stonebridge.

Man I’d have rather gotten the brain eating amoeba and have decent water out of the tap than the pool water level of chlorine we’ve got in the water now.

My wife teaches summer school... it is such easy money that it took her 5 years to get a job doing it. Basically no one ever gives up the positions
My wife was an elementary school teacher in the Monroe city school system for 5 years. She made about 24k / year during those years. After year 3, she started teaching summer school instead of taking the summer off - which is one of the reasons that she became a teacher. Summer school added an extra 8K to her yearly salary, because everyone wanted their summer off. So she basically ended up with about 8 weeks vacation time per year, when including the other single day government holidays. While 32k / year is certainly not great, it ended up being almost $750 / week before deductions. The biggest of which was teacher union dues which she hated being a part of and paying, but was basically forced into by other teachers. Of course, I would call this bullying, but I doubt the teacher union saw it that way.

That guy has old family money and owns an insurance company. He already had money and a million dollar home before becoming a city councilman
