LE BOURGET, France—Efforts to get Boeing Co.’s 737 MAX jetliners back in the air have been delayed in part by concerns about whether the average pilot has enough physical strength to turn a manual crank in extreme emergencies.

Millenial pilots gonna get us all killed.

Protip-you never wanted to armwrestle a WWII B24 pilot. Fighting the controls gave him immense strength.

they already have one, but that's where the need for physical strength comes in

Oh, the airlines will when it comes out during discovery that 230 people are dead because the airlines knew it took a good amount of strength to turn the trim wheel, their pilot wasn't strong enough to turn the trim wheel, and they never tested her on it to see if she was strong enough in the interests of diversity.

no a real problem, just a simple matter of changing the gearing on the crank

the real issue is they dont want to spend the money it would take to change the design of the gears because then it has to go through 10k levels of red tape and FAA tests before its approved. then if it is improved they cant justify not requiring all planes to upgrade to the new easier to crank landing gears design

Phil: "I'm pretty sure that's illegal, too."
Alan: "Maybe since 9/11 when everyone got so sensitive. Thanks a lot Bin Laden!"

Wrf are you talking about? The crank has nothing to do with landing gear.
