Chasing the perp creates a situation where it is your deadly sidearm vs a non lethal taser, that only becomes a 'lethal' threat as you close in on him.
If that perp runs into that restaurant or someone's home or just to an area where bystanders gather, you very quickly have a situation where innocent citizens are at risk of bodily harm or death. If that did happen, you and your ilk would now be screaming, "How could the cops let a drunk madman get loose and kill that 5 year old?"
And if you say you wouldn't, you're full of shite.
It is the officer's job to uphold the law and protect the safety of law abiding citizens. Period. If the guy hadn't pointed the taser, he would not have been shot and killed. He would have been apprehended in short order. How many suspects, who do not have a weapon, have you seen flee and be chased down immediately? The fact this guy was armed makes it even more imperative that he is apprehended or neutralized as soon as possible.

And you don't understand that police have protocols they must follow before they arrest someone for DUI.
Pretty sure everyone understands that. If you watched the entire video you would see that the officers followed every protocol
quote:
Let's say they did detain him after he ran up on the curb. Then what?
Then he may still be alive. After finding him passed out behind the wheel in the drive thru, then falling asleep while taking to the officer, then running up on the curb, the officer had probable cause to detain him for his own safety and the safety of others while they sorted shite out. He could have easily called If he determined this guy was ha having a medical emergency
quote:
They can't arrest him for DUI just b/c he was asleep in the drive thru and ran up the curb, even though we all know it's about a 99% chance he was under the influence, that's not how it works in court.
I don’t think anyone is suggesting he should have been arrested for those reasons without conducting a field sobriety test.
Again, you’re confusing what I said and still don’t understand the difference between detained and arrested.
Just admit you misunderstood what I said and take your loss and move on.

He was already detained when you said “he should have been detained.”
ETA: stopping someone for questioning and a FST is detainment.
Then its settled. They did exactly what I suggested they should have done.
I never said anything about they should have arrested him on the spot.

well, that isnt really the metric to someone being non-cowardly......TBH
fighting is inherently trashy and not at all correlated with dealing with a criminal situation (like the topic at hand).
It seems you have a greater than average issue with LE.
ETA: FTR, I don't agree with LE's sentiments.

And I want to get out in front of the "You don't know that would happen" comment.
This guy was local. He had a rap sheet with crimes that were local. The officers spent more than 40 minutes with him, likely talking to dispatch and getting the guy's particulars.
The officers likely knew this guy was a violent felon who had been convicted of abusing his OWN children and their mother. Do you believe he would hesitate to hurt a random child?

Protocol is merely a buzzword in this instance.
Office = fired
Police chief = resigned
And you wanna talk about protocol? Casty

He just man handled two cops and now “drunk guy won’t get far”? Sure

I hope chicken pays you well with doughnuts and cheeseburgers for all the shitty posting that you do.
Cops being fired and resigning have nothing to do whatsoever with this discussion. Unless of course you are dumb enough to think that the Atlanta mayor and other stupid arse leaders make logical decisions. LOL

Don't deflect just because I know why he did what he did and why it was the correct response to the situation.

So what the frick are you even arguing about?
You want them to detain him after he ran up on the curb. What the frick does that even mean? do you want them handcuff him? Do you want them to put him in the back of the car without handcuffs? What they did was detain him dumbass. Then they followed protocols of a dui and eventually attempted to arrest him.
AT WHAT POINT WAS IT BAD POLICING, WHICH IS WHAT YOU ORIGINALLY ARGUED, AND IS THE REASON I BROUGHT UP THAT THEY HAVE PROTOCOLS TO FOLLOW?
but go ahead and respond with more deflecting about the definition of detain or arrest or bombed.
You said it may be been bad policing. i disagree. you've yet to make any point to say other wise, as all you've done is act like a child arguing about websters dictionary.

Good God you are a hopeless idiot.
The mayor is vying for a VP spot. The Distric Attorney is currently under investigation for embezzlement and multiple ethics violations (not his first investigation, either). The mayor demanded the officer be fired immediately (yes immediately, before even half of the video was even known to exist) without following any legally-binding procedures and conducting even a cursory investigation. It is likely that the Police Chief refused to fire him. The mayor then likely threatened to fire the Chief with cause for insubordination. The Chief then, in an effort not to lose everything she had in the way of a job and retirement, fired the officer. The Chief then stepped down.
Before you start pointing to the actions of politicians and corrupt DAs, you may want to actually attempt to understand the realities of the situation.
Now, carry on.

And that officer has probably already lawyered up for a wrongful termination suit.

I didn’t say it was bad policing. That was Lester.
I was trying to figure out what Lester was talking about giving a scenario of what maybe he was calling bad policing.
I actually think the cops did everything perfectly
Why are you yelling?
You have really bad reading comprehension skills.

Wrong. Protocol is literally the foundation of every single law enforcement interaction that happens in every department in every state across the entire country.
Protocol is likely the only thing that will matter if this case happens to ever see the inside of a courtroom.

That officer, and the other officer was in contact with his Union rep before he even finished the paperwork for the case.
He, and the other officer, was in contact with union lawyers not long after.
Both officers probably obtained council from private lawyers before the sun came up the day following the shooting.

Wrong....
Keyboard White-Knights are applying THEIR limited experiences and knowledge to high-pressure situations and placing unreasonable expectations on people who are literally at risk of losing their lives every minute of every day because some thug/punk/perp decides he wants to attack the Police.
Anyone who has experienced REAL confrontations KNOWS that one can NOT expect a person who is fearing imminent death or bodily harm to remain calm and follow the protocols that these soft bodied advocates for criminals expect them to.
