To steal from Jeff Dunham, does it make the sound “homohomohomohomohomo” when it idles?”

Since the Corolla is a new hybrid, I'm believing that it is also eligible for the $7,500 tax credit that the Prius is no longer eligible for.

That tax credit is only available for alternative fuel and plug in/full EV vehicles. Standard hybrids don't qualify.

And the Prius has significantly more interior volume, both passenger and cargo. The Prius certainly isn't a looker, but its success brought in the age of the mass produced hybrid. And that's allowed better looking alternatives to make it to market.

The Prius has a good argument for GOAT UberX vehicle. Back when X first launched we were in them all the time (particularly in CA) and they were sized perfectly for that.

I'd agree with that. I've used ours for that for the last two years and it costs almost nothing to run Fits a lot of luggage and people.

The car that invented the segment is at risk for being eclipsed by competitors

Leader penalty. Business 101. You grab a bunch of sales by offering the first product in the market segment. But you pay a penalty when your competitors learn from your mistakes and bring a similar or better product to market without all of your development costs. I recently bought a new product to market, sales tracing showed that some of my very first units sold went straight to my competitors. Clock is ticking before they reverse engineer my design and try to improve it. Then the patent fights start.

Toyota would be just fine if it were to lose the Prius.

Not only ugly but the build quality was 1990's GM level.

Going to respectfully disagree. The first 3 gens certainly don't have have the nicest materials in the cabin, but they don't rattle. They don't crack. They don;t randomly fall apart. And the hybrid tech has been bulletproof since at least 2010.

$5K more gets a much more nicer Rav4 hybrid. Only sacrificing 10mpg.

After testing driving a Prius V a few years back, we declined to consider Toyota. That interior was really bad.

And they do rattle in the back after the mileage racks up.

So pay over 15% more for an almost 25% cut in efficiency? That's fairly significant.

Nowhere close to 90s GM bad.
