re: Bloomberg Sources: California Considers Paying Valero to Continue Operating Refinery

A contractor showed up to a valero plant in an ev a few years ago. He was asked to leave the site and they stopped doing business with that company.

Would love for my kid to be able to get a job at one of their refineries upon graduation this Spring.

If I’m representing Valero, I agree under the condition that the state is responsible for ensuring that the refinery meets all California environmental regs, not Valero. All Valero has to do is make product.
And every day that the government has the refinery shut down for their BS they pay another XX million.

Valero should refuse and close the refinery. Then California republicans should start a state wide advertising campaign about how the state is paying for sex change operations for illegal immigrants with mental illness while Californians are getting raped at the pump.

What site? The St. Charles Refinery had an Engineer that drove an EV and Management never said a thing.

Craig Ferguson had a great bit about this. He said Hollywood had a whole gaggle of people who create problems for celebrities, then solve them and the celebs pay them for it.

I would press for exemptions from certain regs for 3-5 years. But in no circumstance would I let liberal state government employees actually oversee (as opposed to simply regulating) the plant. It would be a tragedy.

Damn they’ve gone soft over there.
The one I’m thinking of was in memphis iirc.

They are also trying to repeal the Jones Act in Congress so that they can get direct shipments from the Gulf Coast refineries.

Stock jumped bigly today.

I"m assuming Californians travel right?
When they visit other states and they see gas prices at $2.50 and go home and it's $6.50, you think they'd notice that right?
Millions of people in California regularly vote to make just about everything in their lives substantially more expensive than it has to be and then they complain about the cost of living.

Hell no, Valero should tell them to eat shite and make these fools suffer due to their own poor decisions.
California loves to villanize the oil producers and refiners, but stick their hands out to grab those taxes.

The state gave the California Energy Commission has the authority to:
—Insist on minimum inventory levels in refineries
—Control the timing of turnarounds
I think Valero says FU to California regardless. They are probably just grin fricking them now.

That would be low unless something changes. Between Phillips and Valero, they are losing 20% of refining capacity.
There are no pipelines into California.
You can’t ship refined products from Texas to California by water because of the Jones Act.
I’d say it goes to 8 or 9.

They don't notice since it's CA and they're all driving electric vehicles.

Whatever the amount California pays is, the same amount should be reduced from what the Federal government would normally pay them.
Enough of this bs

That’s one reason why refiners are pulling out. You can’t sell the California blend anywhere else, and demand in California is flat or declining.
Who’s going to invest millions in a refinery in that market?
California fricked the dog by not considering the unintended consequences of pushing everyone to electric. They just assumed there would be adequate gasoline supplies in the meantime. The market said “not so fast.”
